Nice. I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll run. Have fun with the clutch, ACT's own. Remember you have to break it in though, so you might not wanna go straight to the track.

Are you putting it in yourself? I've put in a RWD clutch, I don't think I'd want to do FWD.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind helping someone put there's in (as long as they know what they're doing) but I wouldn't want to put one in my daily driver unless I had at least done it once or twice before.

I used to spend the whole summer down in Ft. Lauderdale with my aunt and uncle, but they moved to Austin Texas a few months ago. If I was staying with them I'd be there in a heart beat.

I will my stock clutch is slipping like crazy. I did not want to spend this money right now I had a turbo on order and had to hold off on that till I get this done.

Are you putting it in yourself? I've put in a RWD clutch, I don't think I'd want to do FWD. I've replaced clutches on my old MX-6 and several times on my cousin's RSX. It is not really too hard just pretty time consuming. Just need a couple jacks and pretty strong arms to hold up the tranny and you should be ok.

If I ever change my clutch, I'll probably go with the Spec based on the recommendation of KYRaceFan.

All apart right now the flywheel actually looks OK. Should have it together late tomorrow. Stock clutch was not bad a lot better then I thought it would look just could not handle the power.

The rust on the ball joints and axle are rediculous, It is disgraceful, I was thinking of taking it back to Mazda but I do not think I want them to touch my car so I might do it myself.

Well finished last night, and I must say it is nice.
I really can not get on it yet, Going to break it in for about 200 miles around town. Pedal is in the same position but release point is way closer to the floor, like 2 inches off the floor.
I will drive it for awhile and get back to you.

So basically you have to relearn how to drive it? :)

You got that right I just want to romp on it. For the past month when you hit third WOT the thing wasa slipping like crazy. I just want to wind it out in all gears. I am going easy though, it is tough to go slow, trying to keep the boost below zero.
Had a probe come flying up to me on the way to work this morning and then just stop next to me want me to go. I was banging my head on the wheel trying not to step on the fuel.
As for relearning you are right, totally different then stock clutch and I was really use to that.

Why didn't you do the flywheel when you had it the tranny down? How much was the clutch?

orangezoom

Flywheel was fine
Clutch cost me $385.00

I never even looked at a flywheel so I would not know. That price in this thread is a good price for that clutch you should talk to him.

Orangezoom,
That is the same clutch kit that I have had in my MP3 since Feb 2002. Now that I have to replace Transaxle, I am gonna go with something different. Do you know for the same price you paid for that ACT, you could have gotten a Stage 2 Spec Clutch that holds 309 ft.lbs of torque instead of just 268? $329 from Spec directly. Stage 3 is $369, uses a smooth-engaging 4 puck, and holds 349 ft/lbs of torque! Hit up http://www.specclutch.com/specMain.html

is there a difference between the regular protege and the MSP clutch? because spec lists two different prices for the different cars, the ones for the MSP are listed at a little more torque rating but are double the price...i would like to get the one for the regular protege if it will fit, it would save a lot of money...

(mswerd) The one I am getting is not even listed on the website. It is the newer hybrid (SZ943H) stage 3. It will hold 349 ft/lbs of torque, but drive like a Stage 2! (eekdance) The retail for this kit is $389.

Sorry, had to edit my quote to list the correct part number for the clutch kit!

don't believe the hype, the msp and all other 3rd gen proteges have the same tranny etc. spec is just trying to make a few bucks off msp owners i think :)

Spec Clutches are great! I have their dual stage in my other turbo car and will be getting one for the MSP when the stock one wears out. There might be cheaper alternatives, but the Spec Clutch is worth it. Just shop around for a good deal.
