View Full Version : My MSP sounds like a duck

Recently Mazda replaced all my air intake pipes from the factory filter box to the turbo.

I recently removed the filter box and fitted a K&N cone filter in its place with a nice pipe section with the temp sensor plugged into it.

But now I have this duck flapping sound that comes back out of the filter when I lift off of the throttle after boost.

My first though was (air/vacuum leak) but all is tight. Another MSP close to me has almost the same setup, and also has this sound.

Anyone have any ideas? I am thinking a wave sound escaping through the cone filter, which was previously blocked by the restrictive factory filter box.

Also, and ideas on how to get rid of this sound, I don't want to be called ducky boy... LMAO

It's a turkey, not a duck. I'm presuming that you're relatively new & don't realize there are about 823048023483 threads about the turkey. Try searching & have fun reading. :p

u lost about 11 whp when u did that.
u are better off putting the stock airbox on....or getting a CAI.
your filter is getting heatsoaked, resulting in loss of power and bad gas milage.

Its piped into the box thats infront of the wheel well, like the Injen CAI system.

Am I still loosing power??

u mean the filter is sitting behind the bumper?
if yes then u're ok.
just as long as it's not sitting behind the light or anywhere in that area.

unless the filter is RIGHT behind the fan, on a turbo car it doesn't matter, i don't get why people don't realize this, oh well...

Yes the filter is behind the bumber, infront of the wheel well, sorta behind the fog light hole... damn.. if that hole only went all the way through then whoosh would there be air there... (maybe rain too) (boom07) yikes

u have a short ram.

what i'm talking about is when people stick a come filter on the stock plastic pipe......
or come up with an elbos to move the filter near the light.

majik, your shit looks good bro!

If you don't want turkey, get a turbosmart dual BOV.

I'm going to follow the "how to kill turkey with stock i/c pipes" keeping the stock bpv and hose in place.

Now I just need to figure out what BOV would be good to use.

If you going to do that, the Greddy Type-S sounds great
