well, it seems that when i took my MSP in for the tranny failure I had, they found that the LSD was broken in 2 pieces. they told me that parts will be in tomorrow ..... I"m glad its almost done even though its only been 1 day so far.
Thanks for you guys that helped me figure out my problem. And i still love that warrenty, even though i had to strip my car naked, of its speed....(glare)

Yea told you it's becoming a common problem. Just not every msp is on this forum to post about it.

I really don't think that many are breaking some are and most aren't they did make 4,000+ of these things didn't they?
I know it must suck that yours broke but not all the exhausts fell in half like mine either. Some have most won't.
I am not trying to flame but all in all most people have not had a diff break in half. I have BEAT THE SHIT out of my car lately for the last couple of months on and off all the way up to 15PSI and it has been fine. I have over 40k miles on the ticker now almost all of it up to if not over 12PSI.
I do take impeccable care of my car though :)

I was just starting to think about this too....I beat the shit out of my car daily, I'm at almost 43,000 miles in less than a year and a half, and haven't had the slightest hint of any problems. Dunno, maybe there are just some unlucky ones out of the group....

Well, the first year I had my car everything was fine. Now I've had the rotors, radio, sub, bushing, lsd problems. Could possibly be a certain batch at the ports. Wont know b/c of the # of msps not on this forum

Your gonna hate the new diff. And you should warn the techs it is a lsd even though it looks like an open diff....It will save them a couple of phone calls...trust me.

Yea I 2nd what blkzoomzoom said. I had a bitch of a time investigating the new lsd myself. It also doesnt work as well on the turns as the old one did.

I actually burned one of the clutches last week at the track.....though it didn't split like the old one. I guess the MSP wasn't built for weekly quarter mile poundings in mid- 13's. Oh well.

Just a question for you guys.
Are there any other LSD options out there for the MSP, I mean other than the dealer?

so far I've seen mostly 2003 models getting problems...and it figures cuz they are older. But in the orlando area where there are probally lots of MSP I only know 1 MSP that had LSD failure. As I said all MSP are not equal. I've been super problem free since i bought the car in September and have 13,000 miles on. I've never been back to my dealer since.
So the "revised" LSD isnt the same? What is it? And what if it does go bad...is there an option to upgrade it with lets say a cheap but decently good LSD like Kaaz?
Your right about the MSP not being a 1/4 mile car. Its a autoX/roadcorse car. Racing that doesnt require a good launch...well not as good as 1/4 mile geting that 60ft time. maybe thats why I havent had problems...only been to the drag stripe once...mostly try to doo SCCA.

I don't drag race either for that reason.

If I hadn't have held the "updated" lsd in my hand I would've thought the guys in that service department were a bunch of jerks. All truth being told when I broke my lsd a couple of weeks ago and they sent me the new "updated" part I thought it was a joke. I called the Mazda Parts rep. told them what a bunch of b.s. it was for sending me an open diff. He swore it was an lsd. When I asked how it worked he replied "F'n M". Still not satisfied I called Mazda Tech. Line, they said the exact same thing with a "trust me I get called 2 x's a week for the same thing", so I asked them how it worked, they said " F'n M"
It turns out the new lsd is slightly weaker, it no longer uses spring force for the lsd function. Now it uses centrifugal force. Basically it works great straight line but sucks for corners. But the lack of spring force makes the unit as a whole stronger.
That being said, they never tried to give you a open diff., they simply didn't know it wasn't an open diff.

Well, i just came back from the mazda shop and they said that they were putting back the same lsd that was in the tranny from the start. I looked at both and they looked the same. I had no problems at all, and it only gave me 3 days with out my car. (rockon)

Yea the outsides the same did you look on the inside?? The old one has springs. The new one doesnt. Youll also notice your torque steer is gone if not reduced.

The part alone is about $400.

A shit load of money since dealers typically love to rape you on parts and service. I would say if you consider buying one...then just buy it and let them install it. They typically range from $500-$1500 for the best which is Quaife (which 04 SRT-4 have stock...I hate dodge). The unit we have in our cars are fairly cheap...but semieffective for performance sake. If you really do not care you can get a phantom grip unit wich is super cheap and is better then an open diff...problem is those are not true LSDs...just acts like one to an extent. I been told that they really suck at cornering...
If my LSD goes out im getting Kaaz or might fork some extra cash just for Quaife...its an big investment...the one thing I dont want fucked up cuz I do not know anything about trannys. Sucks I could deal with weak rods and replacing them myself...but not LSD...I wouldnt even know where to begin.

Kaaz doesnt make one, only quaife so far. sux
