Hey Forum:(pissed)
Guys/Gals I'm pissed off!! Recieved yesterday two tickets.
1) 72MPH Speeding $135.00 Ticket in a 55MPH zone (I'm not that mad about that)
the thing is the cop was comming against me in a turnpike at 5:00PM no traffic. A faster going car was in between the radar and me.(gun)
2) Tint Ticket- The cop just gave me a $100 ticket for 35% tints. And he didn't even prove they are "illegal". He just touched the glass and told me "not permited"

Just to express my feelings LOL
PS: sorry if there's cops here...

Take care

You can fight #1 easily. It's very hard for a cop to perform all the necessary steps to use a radar on somebody when they are driving the other direction on the highway. Those steps take time. Also, the radar would have picked up the speed of the other car, not yours, so make sure you argue that.
#2 - is 35% tint illegal in your area? Then there's not much you can do. If it is legal, fight that too.

Is tint outright illegal? Then he doesnt have to put a % on it.

Then fight that too. Do you have the receipt from when you got your windows tinted? Does it say 35% on it? Otherwise just argue that the officer never used a meter to measure the light transmission.

From what I hear.. In New Jersey, tint is illegal if on the front windows or windshield.. Sucks to be there... (silly)

Hey man you got to check that because they are legal here in P.R.(I think you have to show the receipt to the cop that they are 35%)

In PA all tint is deemed not legal but if you look into the law, 35% is considered a grey area and can be disputed in court. I think that if you dispute it then you will win. Especially because he didn't use his tint meter.

I recently received a fine for my windows being too dark. Mine are 5% so there wasn't much that I could dispute. What was fuc#ed up about my situation is that it was a state cop that pulled me coming off of a highway and he was carying a tint meter in his car. He had to be out for someone with mods. How many state cops carry a tint meter in their car. Its not like they have jurisdiction in town areas. Hope that makes you feel better and a little more informed.

Ummm... yeah, they do. That's why they are called "state" cops. They have jurisdiction anywhere in the whole state.

Driving around with 5% is just asking for trouble, though!

...why cops get a little sensitive about dark window tints. First - I'm not a cop nor do I feel it necessary to defend those cops that act over the top. I think, however, when you realize that when tint is so dark that a cop can't easily see in from the outside - they don't know if there's a shooter hiding in the back seat or not. Cops get killed for this very reason evey year... not sure you can blame cops in general for this sensitivity.

Here in Canada, the tint regualtions change from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. An uncle of mine recently got a tint ticket while out of provice. His tint was legal at home but not where he got nabbed.

Best guidance would be to find out what the max allowable is where you're going to be driving and stick with that. Keep the work order stating the percentage in your vehicle so if a cop questions you about it you can prove that A - you know the law and B - your mods are legal. Always easier to "fight" the ticket with facts before you get it than after the fact.

Just my opinion,
ham

PS - I would say that if you feel you're within the law - then FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT. If not, take your medicine. As you said - you're not that miffed about your speeding ticket because you were actually speeding. I'm starting to learn (in week one of owning my 3 sport) that speeding tickets are likely going to be an extra operating cost (spin)

I see a lot of cars here (monroeville) with tint and i can't imagine all of them getting pulled over.

i'm considering tinting my car (because i spend about 75% of my driving time sitting at lights and I hate it when people just stare at me) but I'm trying to figure out what other people in this state do (besides move, I've already considered).

as for the speeding ticket that just sucks. i have 3 warnings (2 written, 1 verbal) for 71, 72, and 70 in a 55. the last warning i actually got in my 3 and i didn't even have my registration with me. its all luck of the draw for speeding. cops eventually got me for 68 in a 45. (bullshit i was doing 60)

cops got me once doing 88 mph in a 65 mph zone, I was really doing 110 mph.
