Anyone else have a problem with the area around the handle wearing or dulling down on the MSP? I'm talking just a difference in color....
Even on some newer MSP's I have seen the same thing...
Ive tried cleaning it and armor all, and it wont go away, any suggestions?
Thanks,
Steph

anwyay to clean it?Nothing to clean, the plastic "make up" is changed there. To hide it, use furniture "lemon pledge" and do your glovebox. Works like a champ!

Aw shit this thread made me look at mine just now and it's the same F-ing way!!! All "faded" or some shit right above the handle. WTF?! My 2000 Protege ES didn't have this problem...although that had the light gray interior instead of this charcoal color that Mazda switched to. I guess this is just another thing I can add to the long list of annoyances about this car.

My first msp didnt, but my new one does. One production nuber apart to. Not something we could get covered under warranty unless we proved alot had this problem.

Are you guys sure that it's not the way the light reflects off of the hump part? Because I thought the same thing like wtf it's discoloured already?! But now you got me all paranoid too.

I noticed a gray color the other day, just thought it needed cleaning, which is odd because no one with dirty hands has opened my glove box...
If everyone's got the same problem then I suggest we start a seperate thread and gather names of those that have this blemish, then approach Mazda with it and see what they can do about it.

oh no , not this again.
It's not dirty... it is where the plastic was bent either being taken out of the mold or when it was originally installed. Some people have had the same issue with the interior door trim pieces. When color molded plastics are bent (even slightly) the lose their sheen in the bend area, or can change color completely to a dark gray or even light gray.

i never even noticed
Your interior door panels will have it too, I am pretty sure. Look right above the pocket on the bottom door and the armrest and you will see a light grey crease (or line). If you apply a boatload of armor-all to it it may lessen the appearance of it somehow, but it will always be there. My guess is that it happened on the doors at port when they installed speakers or something. They probably just undid some of the clips that hold the door panle on, and bent it back to install the speakers. I am not sure how they would have done it on the glovebox, but it definitely is a crease from bending.
You could ask your dealer to get you new panels and glove box, but I doubt you will get them for free.

I noticed it on the doors a long time ago. It doesn't look like a bend though. Mine looks like liquid ran down the door panel into the map pocked. I have 2-3 long streaks that don't clean off.
My dealer said that they replaced someone's door panels under warrenty for the problem but that the new ones looked the same. I also have some similar marks on the center of my steering wheel.
My guess is that it is where adhesive from the trim pieces added at the port dripped or ran and discolored the plastic. I don't think there is anything there to clean off, just discoloration.
I just keep armour-alling it again and again.

Nothing dripped down and it wasn't any adhesive. It is for a fact what I explained above...period.

Like I originally had said, but now with clarification. Mazda NA has it noted in their system that it was a problem due to how the "robotics fitted the unit" during assembly.
Jurgs01 sent me his old glovebox from his crashed MSP and I went to town on it and dremeled the shit out of it to look behind, etc.
Behind the plastic is a boomerang type bend that when heated up, bends and discolors the location we are all talking about further. Think of it as support. So, during manufacturing, this piece was straight with lines of support and bent while hot, and hence the outcome of the discolored piece.
Shit, why don't people listen to the simple things I post.!?!? (gun)

Nothing wrong with mine! Sounds like another MSP defect (J/K guys!!) Anyhow i dont use amorall it sucks. Use lemon scented Pledge, or hell any scent for that matter. The armorall and stuff like it stain the dash and other plastics. Kinda like grease on your shirt, its the same deal. I used it once on my dash and if you open my glove box, there is a permanent line down the left and right sides of the opening where the amorall stained it. Here are some pics.

Yes, those lines are not stains as it appears, rather of pressure on plastic.

It wasnt clear to me what it exactly was until seeing pics on panels and the explanation from 03MSP on the robotics:)
