Hey!
here's my recent 1/4 mile run.
I can't really figure out if something's wrong. Got a decent 60ft time, but my 1/4 time is kinda slow.
60ft 2.284
330ft 6.698
1/8 et 10.307
1/8mph 68.20
1000 et 13.340
1/4 et 15.948
1/4 mph 87.88
what's wrong with this picture? btw I'm stock...
yeah...that's kinda odd. what is the weather like in ohio right now ? and at what RPM are you shifting at ?

We go to the 1/8 mile track about every other wednesday and my best time is
60ft: 2.295
1/8et: 9.9008
1/8mph: 73.15
I am just flashed with shifter bushings and a cone filter instead of the air box
O btw : 2g bov what??

actually, it depends on what you are actually boosting stock...i ran a 16.1 when i was bone stock and unflashed during the summer last year with high humidity and no cool down time. so your time might not be too far off right now. you would probably run faster if it was colder out. this is definitely not turbo weather...

I tried shifting at 6500-7000 rpm.
Pretty much close to redline in 4th gear at the 1/4 mile mark.
It was pretty humid, probably not very good turbo weather...

You mean 3rd gear right? Because near redline in 4th is like 110

You're revving too high. Shift @ 5900rpm.

You're revving too high. Shift @ 5900rpm.Are you serious? That won't land you in a very prime spot for hp. Our peak hp is at 6000 RPM, it wouldn't be smart shift before that, or even right at that.

yeah...3rd gear, my bad.
Well I tried shifting at 6000 and I could barely break in the 15 seconds...
I was happy about that launch though :)

I've seen peak #s anywhere from 5800rpm to 6000rpm. But the guys who tend to overrev run slower. Just an observation over the years.

I know you have a lot more knowledge of Protege's than I do, so I am just inquiring; but for drag racing in general, shifting at your peak doesn't seem like the best idea.
I shift at 6900, which may be too high, but I swear I can feel it pulling all the way. Next time I go to the track I am going to shift at redline and try a lot of different things just to see which works best (should have been doing that since the first time I went to the track).
Thanks for the input though, I am going to try that out and get rid of my rev happy mindset.

Well, on my bone stock mp3, at my first time at the track ever, I ran a 16.5 shifting at 6K RPM. Magazine times were all 16.8 or worse. Most guys here ran 17s or slower. What did they all have in common? They revved high.
This isn't a honda...it's got more torque than HP, and it's stroke exceeds its bore. The intake and exhaust ports are small. That right there all points to these not being high revving engines. Do you want to shift at 5900, 6000, or 6500? Depends on your car. To truly figure out your shift points, dyno your car, and then do some math with gear ratios in mind. You'll find that your shift points will typically be around 6000rpm, and CERTAINLY under redline.
