Well track day turned out to be a huge flop. Ran 3 times...15.9, 15.8, 15.6....hehe and this is at 10psi with CS exhaust and intake....after the first run we took a look and found a vacuum leak, figured that was the problem, but still cant even get down to stock times. I've been racing for well over 6 years so its def not my abilities.. I've narrowed it down to either a boost leak, another vacuum leak, or timing....I did a couple of 3rd and 4th gear pulls last night and it pulls up till about 7psi then just dies...feels like timing is being pulled hardcore. I'm going to run a datalog on it tomorrow and confirm it, but im 99% sure thats what the problem is...now I just have to figure out what is causing it. If anyone has any ideas post em up, I can't figure out how can possibly be running slower than stock... oh yea stats on the 15.8 run below...

R/t: .544
60': 2.51
1/8: 10.1
1/8mph: 72.3
1/4: 15.8
1/4 mph: 89.7

I looked thru all my old race log books and I can't even find anything to compare it too...the closest slip i have to that was in my old mx6 fs03 which did a 15.1 @ 91mph...ugg i think the dsm curse has carried itself over to the msp....

A couple of guys at leabonan valley ran stock when I was running......the best times they got were in the 16.2-16.6 range.........It all depends on the condition of the track and the drivers tech.. Also I have never had that bad of a 60' time......Not to be rude but possibly look into different launch techniques.

Right outside Albany NY.......I'm there every wednesday night running one car or the other, lol. (Depends on which one isn't broke)

wow, nice response.I agree!
And to be a little rude....If you have been racing for 6 years...You havent learned a whole lot have you?
2.5 60 ft is one of the worst time i have ever seen for a MSP!
I can flat out dump the clutch at 5K RPM and on stock tires and pressure and run better than a 2.5.
You need to parctice launcj=hing this car and find out what works for you.If you can pull a 2.2 60ft then I am sure your times would drop to a low ,low 15 second run which is still really high for your mods.

Yeah I have a silver 02' sedan, I don't know if you've ever seen me..You probably would hear me before you saw me..haha..Yeah you should check out NEPOC man, there are a couple guys up and around albany who are joining up..basically we just have meets and bbqs and party..whenever the DX gets back on the street, we should hang out up at lebanon.

it has been stupidly hot this past week...

BOOSTR
06-26-2004, 05:08 PM
Yeah its hot in FLA, but not all Sunshine State MSP's are effected by the heat.
My SPEED hauls all day long no matter what the temperature outside.

Something was wrong for sure. Better times are ahead once you work out the kinks and launching issue.

2.5 was all the car had.. it felt like i was dragging a block behind me...my gsx had a 60 of 1.7, corvette did a 2.22 and the mx6 pulled 2.31 thru the 60s(all on street radials)...so i do know how to drive the problem is the car isnt going..pulled the plastic cover for the vavle cover and low and behold 2 bolts on the valve cover had completely come out , and the rest were loose enough that i could undo them by had...the exhaust manifold was missing a passenger side bolt and three others were loose to the point once again i could remove them by hand....car runs noticeably better but its pulling timing past 7psi, logged it today...rechecked everything no vacuum leaks, no boost leaks(used a boost leak detector @21psi)...so im completely lost...even let 2 of my corvette pals drive it and they said the same thing...feels like timing is giving out...the logs are horrible, at 4600 and 7psi timing just drops.....so lets kill the driver error discussion b/c thats not the problem, i need suggestions on what is causing the timing to be pulled so bad...oh and whoever said that low 15s was good for my mods...incorrect, i should be easily in the low 14s...any rate back to chekcing vacuum lines...

check all hoses to the intake manifold. boost leaks will gecha. get a new clutch too just to put the power to the ground. stock clutches often slip with heavy power loads. my act helped a bunch.

you could try and reset your ecu so that it will start fresh. Msps seem to get pretty boggy after awhile, especially if you drive hard, it seems to overcompensate with fuel and possibly pulling timing.

do you have the stock intercooler? i know arunto ran a 15.2 at the track. put a bag of ice on the stock intercooler for a little while and then ran a 14.2. that was the only differences between the two runs.

At least, you have another chance to run better time's thanks to the rain..........good luck, finding out what is wrong with your car!

Definately part of the problem, but with those mods, the MPH should be alot faster, knocking off at least a few 10ths...

I had a bad night at the track friday too... Popped off some vacuum hoses, and blew one completely apart. Also couldnt get off the line for anything, tried 3 different launches, and nothing better than 2.5 60. I used to get 2.2's consistently.

yeah I reset the ecu....i was considering the possibility of a clutch slipping, but usually I can smell it when it slips...but that was my first though on the 2nd run....funny thing is today i took it out on a test run and I could barely chirp the tires in 1st gear, even dropping the clutch at 5500, so theres something def wrong either with the engine side or the transmission side...checked again today no boost leaks and all the vacuum lines have been double checked...I'm going to tinker around for a few more days and then if its still runs like shit I'm going to drop the tranny and take a look at the clutch...im gonna be pissed though if its already shot with only 8K on the car...especialy when i baby it...

Not sure if you have changed your exhaust or not yet, but I know of a guy here in Toronto that had his turbo blow and then after it was replaced the car was running really sluggish, turns out the cats were clogged up and it was really restricting the exhaust, after they changed the cats it worked fine after. Dunno something to think about at least :D

nah exhaust is a catless CS system. at any rate I'm making progress. talked to the family mechanic and he suggested changing the clutch fluid to a heavy duty synthetic fluid...did that yesterday and instantly noticed the difference, I'm now able to roast the tires in 1st and 2nd and chirp them in third...I think I'm finally back in business. So it ended up being a combination of vacuum leak, loose exhaust/vavle cover bolts, and "yucky" clutch fluid....back to the clutch fluid i'd recommend it to anyone, you can also feel the difference in the pedal, its a little stiffer now...
