This is from www.team-integra.net (http://www.team-integra.net/)

"it will cause faster carbon deposits build-up on your valves and piston domes leading eventually in a loss of burn efficiency and incomplete closing of the valves.

There's no good reason to add octane boost. If you are doing this for power, you have sadly been misled.

There was a nice thread (http://www.team-integra.net/forum/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=10&TopicID=15972) here awhile back on why more expensive high octane gasoline doesn't add power. It only helps if you are misfiring. If you aren't, then don't add it. It will cause deposits on your engine internals from the impurities used in the octane boost"

I'd better get ready for flames!! lol

Its absolutley right. Octane booster doesnt add power. But when you up the boost, youd better use something to up the octane level or else your engine just may go boom.

tell those people to boost the same psi on 91 octane as 93 octane and see if they have a car to drive home.

so what about us people that have to deal with the crappy cali gas?just pray. seriously if you planning on boosting higher than i would suggest the octane boost, i think the highest octane your fuel is 91 in cali? can you get 100 unleaded there? they have them here in S FL. in a few places but run like 4.99 a gallon but well worth it if your boosting higher than usual

Yeah its 91 here. It sucks!! I was planning on boosting to about 9 psi with all the appropriate mods first of course, but its going to be tough. I'll have to talk to more MSP'ers who are boosting higher then stock here in CA although I have never heard of any....

Xylene and Toluene are the only octance boosters i use. 1 gallon + 4 gallons 93 +8oz of Marvels Mystery Oil= ~100 octane.

we have 104 here in MD!!! very hard to find though only seen it at MIR though!!!!

Our manuals say NOT to add anything to the fuel like fuel injection cleaners. Since we are on the topic of additives is this truely bad. becuase i usually add this every 10,000 miles. Has anyone else done this yet. I am almost at 10,000 miles!

I just hit 10,000 yesterday and I havent added anything to my fuel, although I have been tempted to.

im going to be using torco in AZ and CA since only 91 will be available and i need 93 to boost 8psi safely.

There's places around NJ & NY that sell 100 octane gas (or higher). A couple of Sunoco's sell a 100 octane unleaded gas...also take a look at stations within a couple miles of any track, I can almost guarantee at least one will have some high octane gas.

But yes, 94 is good....and available at nearly all Sunoco stations which are everywhere here

South Orange County here, boosting .85 bar no det or any issues. Car is completely stock aside from colder plugs.

I agree with the use of additives not always being a good thing. If you don't need it, don't use it. But on the above comment, I think a lot of it is going to have to do with the motor design and tuning. Some cars can take it. As an example, in high school my parents help me buy a brand new Dodge Shadow ES Turbo. It had the non-intercooled 2.2 turbo motor. Stock boost was about 7psi. It didn't take long for me to discover how to bleed the wastegate line and crank the boost. That car made it to 150,000miles at 12 to 14 non-intercooled psi on a daily basis until I finally traded in on a Dakota five years later. This was a bone stock engine. It also saw regular unleaded several times as I may have been to broke to spend the extra $1 or the premium pump was dry. Knock sensors weren't used back then either. And on a side note, Chrysler knows how to build a stout motor. I don't think I'd try that on any of today's cars. Except maybe an SRT-4.....
