View Full Version : What Tires do You Use?!?!

I just bought a set of Nitto Neogens, got em for about 440 installed. I notice that the traction is better, wheelhop is almost eliminated (without mounts), and overall performance is nice. However they are a little heavier (might just be cause my old potenzas were BALD) they feel like they slowed my car a little bit. I can launch pretty well in these though.
What tires do all of you use on your cars? Potenzas are really good, but there are better tires out there, for A LOT cheaper than what the potenzas go for.

I use Yokohama AVS ES100's, 205/50R16 on the stock wheels. These are nice, affordable summer tires for those who don't have TOO much power, but want a good amount of grip. They grip like crazy once they're hot, for sure, and I havn't had any hydroplaning problems with these tires ever. They're much more predictable and pleasant to corner with, too, as they can be felt and heard sliding a little bit, then when you break traction, finally, they REALLY let you know... They squeal loudly when they actually break free, and sound like they're skidding if you're getting close to your cornering limit.

Toyo Proxes T1-S.

AMAZING TIRES. These tires are a huge improvement over stock with better grip and a much better transition from grip to no-grip. With the stock tires from day 1 felt like it was there or it wasn't. With these the transition is much more forgiving, there is more grip, wet traction is great, and tread life is supposed to be better.

stock right now RE040. For the yoko es100, I heard they get noisy after being worn down a little bit, is that true? and is it nosier than RE040??

The ES100's, even after 45k (!) miles, still have 5/32nd's tread left, and they're still nice and quiet, at least to me; I don't notice tire noise as much as some, though, I guess, except when I put my winters on... Uugh... Talk about tire noise. Those are loud as hell.

i believe potenza are only rated for 10,000 miles..i don't care for them, so i got the fuzion z rated..they grip really well.

I have used a lot of tires including;yoko avs100's,neo-neogens,toyo proxes-4,bf-goodwrench KDW,perelli p-zero-nero,perada spec-2's and a few more.

BUT, the best I would have to say is the bf KDW's but they are rather expensive.
In second place I would have to vote the TOYO proxes-4.They have awsome grip, last long,no hydro-plaining,low noise, resenable cost, and they look good aswell.

just my 2 cents, other people may feel differently

no way the kumho ecsta's were cheep crap.beware of the sidewalls getting bubbels the size of golf balls. It happend on three of mine at seperate times
the only reason I kept using then is cause I got insurence on them so they kept replqacing them for free.
but if thats what you want then go ahead. ;)

Eagle F1 GS-D3's... very very good tires, AWESOME wet traction

S-03's are good. Depends on how much you want to spend, Kumho MX's are pretty good for the money, but not as good as the F1's. I've also used ES100s (suck), RE750s, RE040s (duh, stock tires)... And Yoko AVS Intermediates (don't make anymore, awesome dry traction)

S-03's and F1's are 2 of the best tires you can get. S03's have stiffer sidewalls, but the F1's are better in the rain.

anyone tried Kuhmo 712's?

I know several people that use them. They aren't bad. Most of the Kuhmo's will give you not as great treadwear, and not as great traction, when compared to a more expensive high performance tire but they save you money.

I thought treadwear on the Kuhmos was great but you lose traction?

I think they might wear a bit quicker from what I've seen on my friends vehicles.

I bought the toyo proxes 4's at edgeracing.com also. Thanks to who ever posted that site. It was the cheapest place I found for them. A place here tried to sell me the tires for $130 a piece and that was just the tires! I paid $98.78 for each tire if you divide out the shipping costs or just the $88 for the tires.

They are a very good tire excellent grip so far. And they are twenty times better in the rain compared to the stock tires. They look great on the car.

Another happy Toyo Proxes T1S user.

I must say the sidewalls on these tires are a bit mushy but nothing terrible, they're also very progressive in their cornering performance and squeal a lot and early, not unlike a little girl.

Continental ContiExtreme Contacts. Side wall is a little soft than what I would like, but they are pretty sticky for an all-season tire.

bridgestone potenza s-03 pole positions. Put em on today. I also have Falken Azenis on 16x7 slips for autox. Azenis are simply amazing, no tread life. I dunno about s-03 life, so far the s-03's feel good, but i don't have enough mileage on em (haven't broken in yet). Can't wait to get into em.

We've noticed the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s to have rather long treadlife, hard compound, mediocre grip.

Has anyone here had first hand experience with the BFGoodrich KDW, Potenza S0-3 and the Toyo T1-S ? I'm thinking I want to go with one of the three on some lightweight wheels. Looking for max grip, prices are all close enough that it won't play a factor... tread wear isn't very important, unless they are lasting under 10K miles. I guess some of the Nittos could be in the running as well, but I have zero interest in all-seasons... so it'd likely be down to the 555 or 555R.

I have the s-03s, I'll tell you how I like em once I get more mileage. So far they feel great though. Contrary to what everyone has been saying, I've heard the T1-S's suck. The guy who owns the shop I work at was crew cheif on Shauna Marinus' Speed World Challenge last year, and in the SWC everyone has to run the T1-S. He said everyone wishes they could run S-03s because they all hated the T1-S. I've heard good things about the KDW's but haven't used em. Can't wait to get more miles on the S-03s though. They're expensive though, but oh well, they're the most important part of the car.

That's the first I've ever heard anyone saying the Toyo's suck, but ok... I have been hearing that the S0-3s may be the best on the market right now... I'd like to hear what you think of the Pole Positions after you put some miles on them.

Anybody else?

Stock potenzas for now... 17k and going strong... lots of tread left. I keep them inflated and rotate every 5k miles. They are starting to wear a little on the outsides(all that camber), and they dont grip like they used to, but i think its more the power im making now than the tire itself.

I'll be getting KDW2's next summer... excellent wet, and dry, good for autox, and the drag strip, plus good tread life. A bit pricey, but cheaper than buying drag tires, autox tires, and street tires. :)
