Hi,
A friend of mine purchased the 2003.5 Protege5. He wants a roof rack, but the dealer says they don't make them anymore (and doesn't have any).
Where can I find/buy 2003.5 roof racks?
Friend is located in NYC, I am located in MA.
Thanks!

Sorry, fixed original post. For a 2003.5 Protege5 (which has no roof rack at all).

We have page 6 here (http://protege5.ugly.net/09-16.PDF). Looks like there are some bolts under the roof headliner that you can unscrew to lift off the rack. I assume that the "roof rack filler" pieces on my friend's car are mounted the same (if there are any, that is).
EDIT: found a how-to on how to do it!http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22209
So to clarify, I would want the roof rack runners, crossbars, and crossbar opening covers (for when the crossbars are off) (basically, the whole roof rack shebang).
I can trade the roof rack fillers (the low-profile fillers) back, so that you have something to put back in the empty space, plus cash.
However, it's easier for me (and more cash for you), in terms of arranging the swap and such, to just buy the roof rack without trading in the fillers. But that's probably a no go, because where are you going to get the fillers from?

btw there is no such thing as 2003.5 P5 that was just for the regular proteges

Ok, wow, there's way more interest than I expected! :)
I'm going to get in touch with my friend in the evening and make sure that he is comfortable with the work to be perofrmed in the car (just in case, the dealer would've had to do it anyway), and then we can work out the logistics of getting the swap.
I'll keep you folks posted in the "first response/PM" order, more or less... Being local or close to NYC is a big plus, since we could meet up to do the swap.
--- I read on another thread that it looks like there need holes to be drilled?? To install the roofrack on a non-roof-rack P5?? That sounds pretty intrusive... I thought they all would have the holes pre-drilled...

So does this mean that 2002 and previous US models came with a roof rack, and 2003 US Protege5s did not come with a roof rack? And Canadian models never came with a roof rack?

Actually there was. The 2002-2003 models came w/ roofrack standard. The 2003.5 came w/ a sparetire subwoofer standard and roofrack optional. There was also a 2002.5, but those changes weren't quite as obvious. Mike R has a 2003.5 P5 and got the roofrack installed as an option, The Dru chose to go without so that they could install an aftermarket bike rack instead.

Answered my own question by this post: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showpost.php?p=523291&postcount=43
Yep, need to drill holes. Still waiting on response from my friend (he doesn't really use forums or know about them).
This page right here http://home.comcast.net/~gtolley/rack.htm makes it sounds as though the factory roof rack is not so good, and recommends an aftermarket option. But I have no idea how much that stuff costs.
