ok, i'll be nice.

the car does not have 'vtec'. 'vtec' is honda's terminology. however, the new 6 will have variable cam timing on both the i4 and the v6.

thank you for being such a gentlemen (hehe) anyway... that is new info for me... I didnt know they were putting variable cam timing on it... thats pretty sweet... i guess i haven't been keeping up as much as i should be... ive been distracted because there are so many amazing vehicles coming out in the next few years... trying to learn as much as possible about all of them... plus im working and going to school from 8am-11pm every weekday... so i dont have as much free time as i used to... but anyway... to sum up this post:

sweet... didnt know mazda 6 had variable timing

my 2 cents (and I'll be nice too! :D):

VTEC is a MARKETING terminology of Honda's variable valve timing technology.

most modern NATURALLY ASPIRATED engines should have variable valve timing of some sort to maximize low end torque and high end power. I'm glad Mazda FINALLY caught up to Honda and Toyota in this department.

Mazda do have VICS to control air intake volumes to maximize torque and power in their current and past cars, wonder if they're gonna deploy that in conjunction with VVT....

they already have, on the 2001+ miata engines they used VVT along with VICS and VTCS. previous to 2001, (ie 2000 and before) they only had the VICS.

V - TEC , V - Spec , variable valve timing technology. What ever you want to call it. IT THE SAME DAMN THING. I have never seen someone that had there thong so tight about imports.

honda's vtec and mazdas vvt are two COMPLETELY different animals. honda's vtec switched between two different cam profiles, whereas mazda's vvt alters the cam timing. (similar to utilizing an adjustable cam sprocket, but it is adjusted in 'real-time' as you drive)

by looking at your sig, i can see you're planning on getting the tripoint kit. i was interested in the FM kit until i realized that tripoint was located down in the san fernando valley (where i used to live)...so, i'm gonna try to get that instead.

i hope it's worth it

yah... im right here in pasadena... they arent too far... and from what i can tell they've invested alot of time and quality into the develpment of the kit... it'll definitely be better than the mazdaspeed protege turbo :)

Reading this thread makes me laugh at how every manufacturer it seems has thier own "buzzword" to spruce up thier engines;

Ford - ZETEC
GM - EcoTec
Honda - Vtec
Toyota - VVTi
Pontiac - Widetrack
etc etc etc etc .....

Mazda should just adopt ZoomTec

For some reason it wouldn't surprise me very much if they did end up calling it that! :eek:

When I read this thread title I expected this to quickly turn into a flamewar type topic...good job to everyone for keeping it nice. :)
