ok i change my trans fluid and the owners manual said 7.2 qts. and only like 3.7 qt came out. When i filled it i put like 6 even in it and the dip stick was reading WAY over. yes i did check it with the car running and i let it ldle for a few minutes, so i drained a qt. or so and its still pretty high. Theres only like 4.5qts in my trans and the dipstick is overflowing but, the book is calling for 7.2???? So i'm very confused anyone got any ideas. 2002 MP5 Auto.

I don't know if you have an auto or a manual but in the manual it is only 3.1 qts.

An auto tranny wont just drain like a manual tranny. Fluid is being held all over the auto. The torque converter will hold more than you think and lost remains in the valve bodies and valve maze. This will not drain on its own. If changing fluid yourself you should do it twice or three times. Drain and fill till it is at its operating fluid level and then run it and then repeat. The proper way to do it is to have it flushed by a shop. I had Redline transmission fluid put in mine with a complete flush. Cost was around $180 cdn. The fluid is expensive but what a difference in the shifting. you will love it. (thumb)

i would highly recommend taking some of the fluid back out... right around 2.3 quarts of it if 3.7 came out and you put in 6.

you've way overfilled since only 3.7 quarts came out and you put in 6. after a while, too much fluid can cause the fluid to foam, which in turn can lead to erratic shifting, oil starvation and transmission damage.

Do not over fill the Trans fluid.
This is not good.
I would bering it to a shop and have them flush and add a good Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid like AMSOIL .http://www.amsoil.com/products/atf.html
