Has anyone put a hood scoop on their 3 yet. Personally I think it would give the car a more muscular agressive look. Thinking bout getting this one on e-bay, pretty cheap too.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2481501824&category=33646 Any opinions.

i don't think it would be that bad if you at least made it functional. definately don't just stick it on there.

yeah if it was functional it would be ok, but definately dont just put one on there.

honestly. how funcional could a hood scoop on a Mazda 3 possibly be.
Sounds like Uncle Ben's to me. Hold on.
Do you hear the bell?
Ohh, it is RICE.
LOL LOL LOL LOL HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Please for the sake of all M3 drivers, put the hood scoop down. Don't do anything dangerous. We do wanna help you.

Sorry, but I can't get technical due to my lack of knowledge, but wouldn't the scoop be somewhat functional if he has an intake system where the filter is on the top of the engine (not the CIA, which goes to the bottom of the engine.) Seems like the scoop would allow cool air for that type of intake. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

yeah, my comment was kinda based on lack of knowledge as well. I'm only up for it if it's functional, otherwise, definately don't do it.

Forget the hood scoop... get a Type R sticker. That'll add 45 hp at LEAST.

Yeah I would make it functional, there is no point on putting something on a ride just for looks and nothing else. And to you haters out there, sorry if I wanna make my 3 look a little different and not follow the cookie cutter image.

Hey, I am all for making your 3 look a little differant than the rest. That is why I have a black custom fiberglass HU housing where the factory navi. system should go with an Alpine HU. If you were gonna get the scoop on with no functionallity then it would be like me having the housing done in fiberglass and then leaving the whole for the HU empty.

I am def.not hatin but I do not want to see any M3's with cheesy PepBoys Accessories on it. So if you are using the hood scoop correctly then its all good. Post pics when you are complete.

Just my 2 cents..its nice having some originality and something different..so I suggest just do what you think that would make you satisfied..Were not the one driving your car...just some inspiration..i have a scoop on my 2gen msp converted protege...it came from the familia turbo diesel..as you see the intercooler was on top hence the scoop..and this is euro style/JDM..But still original MAZDA part..its non functional for now but im planning on making a box for it so i get to take out the intake and divert it there..cooler air so i guess better..

functional : go for it

how do you plan on making it functional? can the intake be re-routed to pull air from the hood through a scoop? would the shorter intake piping run be an advantage over the current CAI pickup under the engine?

Got the scoop in the mail put it on just to see how it looked and it didn't look too hot. Scoop was also kind of cheap and flimsy, guess that's what you get for $30 bux. Gave it to my friend to put on his '91 civic. Thanks for all the input and advice. I am putting all the input i got together and am opting to go for the sleeper look. Nothing would be nicer than to creep up in a stock looking III and smoking some "ricers",,,everybody agree with me on that?

Whatcha got under the hood that your going to smoke 'em with? Careful, despite a lot of the 'riced-out' cars having nothing but show, there are still quite a few that can back up the tacky graphics and shopping-cart-spoilers with some balz.

Either way - its yer car... have fun!

Dealer "zoom-zoom" sticker/StrongBad window sticker

How much HP did those add? Especially the StrongBad one... I heard that you can easily get 30 extra out of a Homestar.

well this scoop happen to be the one for this model year...if you can find a hood that has a scoop on this model year..show it..this is the hardest car to find parts thats why its the best one cos you dont see it in anyone elses car..even if you open the hood you will find 4 holes made specially for that scoop....ask corksport if they even sell one of these...happy hunting

I wouldn't say JDM is not in but I've never seen the sense in a rear spoiler on a FWD car. Logically, it would actually remove downforce from the driving wheels. (hand)

hmm..thats why the cars aerodynamic to cheat the wind and to have less drag...the spoiler is useful to stabilize the rear of the car in speed excess of 60 mph...

Can't read the bit about the wing.

txmzdspd2gen
06-22-2004, 01:09 PM
the wing on this partcular model is different than the new speed at least on the top of it..the endpart of it swoops up a bit creating a little push down while the big mouth channel the wind that pass thru the rear windows to stabilize the wind and create smooth flow...i really like the way they MS designed their aero kits cos you can see how they try to make it aerodynamic as possible..even the wheels has small holes next to the lugs to lessen noise..damn...so nice..

SRT-4 (FWD)has a functional wing as well...remember the neons suspention set up(AKA Ass In Air) so verified by DCX (Chrysler) the spoiler is functunal once the car hits IIRC 140 and above to keep the ass end from geting airborn....but it is a popular mod for SRT-4 and Evo 8 owners to remove their wings to gain up to like 2 mpg and not stand out to Law Enforcement...I know a few people who swapped out body pannels and steel rims and put se(base model neon) or es(Base model lancer) badges on so beware....evos come with BOVs and SRT comes with BPV unless they get the mopar conversion....ok back on topic of scoop....If you get 2 small ones and put them on both sides then you can cut hood and airbox using the rubber trunk seal and that could be an alternative or get evo vents and place them behind(not directly over) the cai's filter so it pulls air thru fender in motion and not let water fall dirtectly on the filter while standing stil. If you want one for show then get a small one like the mini cooper with supercharger has....(Granted it is functional)

P.S. the hood scoop on srt-4 ($2300 hood!!!(shocked) ) is funtional as well....it primarly feeds air aiding in cooling of the turbine itself and secondary if you do the air box/hood mod ram air intake..see srtforums for more info on that.
