View Full Version : 1st to 2nd gear grind. Petition?

Was just reading up on the Acura RSX boards and they have got a petition going for their gear grinding (only when the weather is cold). Acura has come out, at some time, with a TSB to get it corrected by replacing synchros, etc.

I think our notchiness problem is more severe and was wondering if we should get a petition together to request that Mazda do something about it.

Any thoughts on whether this might work or not???

not sure if it would work, but where do i sign?!?!?!?!?! there is no harm whatsoever in trying. maybe a replacement with some synthetic tranny fluid as warranty work... that would be really nice. I vote AYE!

i dont have this problem, or heard of anybody who does. Maybe its because it never gets colder than 50 degrees here.

That's actually what I meant--very notchy...

Mine will grind if I do something just wrong, or right. If I pull the car out of first before fully depressing the clutch and then start going into second I grind. Even when the clutch is fully depressed when I go into second. For some reason the synchros just wont match quite quick enough. Maybe happens twice a week and i drive around 700 miles a week.

i just want free synthetic tranny fluid!

I'm definitely all for it. My first-to-second shift is extremely notchy -- and if I don't hit the clutch just right during the shift, it usually grinds.

Even if everyone's doesn't grind, we all know about that notchiness .. Maybe we can get ourselves better synchros, if nothing else.

I'm down to sign, I've grinded 2nd a few times because of the notchyness.

if its notchy, chances are mazda won't do anything. or even care for that matter.

^^^ I agree. MT-90 is supposed to help. That will be my next step

i rather get a decent clunk fix or better ecu, if you feel that the tranny it too notchy thrown some synthetic in there. It'll be a lot smoother.

I havent had any clunk problems since I got the 156E bushings 25K miles ago.

An ECU that isn't retarded would be sweet!

I haven't had clunk issues since I got my E-bushings, either .. but I do have that damn squeak now, and don't know how to get rid of it.

(argh)

i havent either, i just have a feeling they are gonna fail as soon as warranty is over. then mazda is just gonna laugh in my face.

I think it's worth a shot. I doubt anyone's synchro will fail before the warranty is up, but I think Mazda might go for it just for insurance.

I think we can solve many issues with petitioning to Mazda. When a shit load of angry speed owners all experiencing the same problem are banging on their door they have to do something!!!

blah blah blah... the mp3 is notchy aswell.

please explain how the notchiness is a severe problem...

the protege isn't Mazda's problem anymore, they're focused on the 2004+ lineup.

the grinding is a syncro problem.... the fluid I used fixed it for me..... its super light, but still very viscous. give it a try

MSP and MP3 owners aren't the only ones with this problem. My 2003 P5 has crappy 1-2 shifts too. Pisses me right off!

Nothing to lose by trying I guess. Although I'll say that my shifter has been BUTTER smooth since I bought it. Shifts great and I think it's only grinded on the 1-2 shift 1 time in the year I've had it. I have no complaints about mine.
