View Full Version : Am I the only one with A/C Problems?

Last year I had problems with the light blinking on the A/C button. I took it in to the dealership and no problem found. Later it reoccured and they injected dye and told me if it happened again to bring it in, nothing for months! Later (as in a couple of months ago) the car started "pulling" and come to find out the expansion valve had to be replaced. Just this past Tuesday, A/C was on and blowing hot air. I pushed the button in a couple to a few times before it finally kicked in and then the light was flashing. I turned it off (the dial) and then back on and the light stayed on and the A/C worked. I haven't had a problem since. My car is a '01 and is under warranty or perhaps the warranty expired in a matter of weeks ago (if exp at all). The problems seem intermittent. I never had problems like this in any car before. Any one else having A/C problems? Just curious. BTW, I purchased it new back in '01.:bs:

I got problems with mine too, but not as yours, mine just blows warm air for a long time, a really long time, and it never really gets cold, unless it's night and very cold outside, i've taken it back 4 times already, and everytime, they do something different to it, it seems to work at the dealership, but then, boom, back to hot. i'm going there this saturday and not leaving until it is fixed:)

JCell, is it the selenoid that is messing up (behind the glove box is a clip holding in to place and if it comes off, it will blow just hot air)? I had the same thing happen to mine. I know things are different because the light isn't even coming on. This has been a great car minus this problem and the lights dimming from stereo played loud. I set up an appointment for Monday, but since it is intermittent, it may come back as no problem found like in the past!

i'll check that out man. it could be it. When i took it in, the guy told me that a line from the compressor was damaged and that they replaced it, and ever since then, it's just been bs after bs so that selenoid thing could be it, i doubt they ever looked there bf, but they will tomorrow!!!!:)

My A/C has problems when it's the on 2nd speed setting. The light will turn off for no reason and shut the A/C off. I usually don't notice it until I'm sweating. I think I better head on down to the dealership.

That is exactly what mine was doing today and the setting was on "2" I switched it over and it was fine. It blinked (the light) the whole way to work and eventually went off. With the humidity factored in today was a steamy 99 degrees!!! (shocked) I got to have my A/C fixed!! It was working okay just the light was blinking. Before, it wouldn't come on period (Tuesday that is). Hmmm!!!

The other day mine did the same thing only usually it flashed slowly, basically turning on and off on and off. THIS TIME though, it was strobing. Like a stobelight fast. I was like "uh yeah I am sure thats not good". No problems since. Totally wierd (sp?)

I have had every problem in the book with my car. I just got the a/c replaced a few weeks ago, when they replaced my tranny. Now it works half the time. Get this, when it works, my back driverside door lock will not work. Then my a/c doesnt work and it does...

I had the same problem with my car. The dealership ended up having to replace the whole ac control panel in the dash. All under warranty.

^^Good God, how many problems are you having?!^^

This a.m. on the way to the dealership, it was working fine. I will probably come in after work with a no problem found status.

its some sort of clip that holds the wire for the Hot/Cold switch. Its like a bike's brakes where the wire inside gets pulled through a plastic wire ..The clip holds the plastic part...Im trying to explain this the best i can but its very early.

I know what you are talking about, but this is electrical. You are talking about the selenoid wire that is clipped at various points behind the console to control the fan and hot to cold rotary knobs.

I had the same problem with my car. The dealership ended up having to replace the whole ac control panel in the dash. All under warranty.
Guess what? They had to do the same thing. I got a call from the dealership at 1030 a.m. after dropping it off. Thank God it's under warranty! <HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF> I will no the particulars after work when I pick up and see the paper work.

Any one else having flashing lights when the button is set to "2", get it checked out BEFORE YOUR WARRANTY IS UP!!!!(boom07)

Last winter I had some flickering A/C light issues on longer trips (e.g. NYC-Worcester,MA and back). It mostly happened in colder weather. Haven't really had it since. It was hard to reproduce, it would kind of just start doing it after a long drive.

It appeared to occur mostly on setting "1", and less on setting "2".

Same Problem Here as well...

When the Dial is set to "2" the thing just flashes....But once I set it to either 1 up or 1 down....does not flash....

Also another weird thing which I have mentioned to the dealership...
When I have the setting set to the Coldest...and the fan set to Any Number...Also the Direction is set to Floor Vent ONLY....I get Cold Air which I know it's the AC....BUT...MY AC button is OFF.
I know this cause when it is 30 deg. C., My AC Button is OFF, I still get COLD aire coming from the floor vent.

Dealership said this is Normal...wtf?...doesn't make sense at all!

Everyone go to the Appearance Forum and vote please! They screwed up and put in the wrong HVAC control module in....Need advice quick before taking it back if I decide to do so! Thanks!!

Well now that the unit is replaced, they replaced it with one with green lights instead of the one with orange lights to match the interior! (hand) I am at the point of saying f**k it and just keeping the green lit A/C controls.(dunno) My cd player has green lights on it, so it goes well with my Alpine, but then you look over to the instrument cluster and see orange. I posted a poll in appearance section so vote and tell me whether or not I should get it swapped to orange lights or leave it green (matching the head unit). (braindead

**** Update ****

Just to let you know I brought my car to the dealership regarding the same problem I posted earlier....

Problem:
When dial is set to "2" and the A/C button pressed in. The Light for the A/C flickers on and off or sometimes turns off on it's own....The work around was to set the dial to either "1" or "3"....And when light does go out...it turns off the A/C...you can tell with temp.

Possible Solution:
Brought it in to Westowne...said I was the 1st to report such a problem...
Anyways...to test things out...they replaced the "Heater Blower Resistor" under Warranty....
They said it may be a contol problem instead of an A/C problem...seeing that it only happens with the dial set to "2"...

Just thought I'd share that info....
will be testing it and hopefully that fixed the problem. <!--Signature-->

They replaced the entire unit (rotary knobs and every thing). I have the ES model with orange interior lights with green A/C lights for controls because they must have used the control panel used in LXs and DXs. :(

I have the same problem, when i change the speed to 2 or 3 automatically
shuts off the cold air!

I have a friend that he worked on Auto A/C and he told me to go
to a tech that can check electric continuity on the relay that controls
of the A/C speed! I also verfied if that part can be purchased on a local
Mazda Dealer, it costs $285.00 the whole assembly!

The total damage would have been $295 with parts and labor. Thank God it is still under warranty. I may have to go back to get the orange lit controls (braindead

Well if you were the first with that problem, then I must have been number zero! I went to them last summer, they told me the exact same thing, wanted to change some resistor. I figured that's BS and didn't want to waste my time. I figured in a years time Mazda should have a fix for it, which I thought they did with the TSB.

Keep us posted of how your A/C works. If it is just the resistor, then I'll drop by Westowne pretty soon and get it changed as well.
