I read a thread a while back that explained how to make it so the AC doesn't automatically turn on while using the defrost. This was for a Mazda 6 and I'd like to find out if anyone has figured this out for the 3.

I have a bad feeling it's computer controlled. Hopefully I'm wrong.

It would be nice to have a wiring diagram.

Oh... and in case nobody else noticed, our A/C comes on anywhere from the floor only position all the way over to the defrost only.

Last winter, I only used the heater on the notch between floor only and floor/vent mix.

I'm going to play with it to try and find out if it's a mechanical switch (like the Protege) or a computer circuit.

I just turn off the compressor with the a/c switch.

I just turn off the compressor with the a/c switch.

Sorry, Ron. It doesn't work that way. It comes on automatically, regardless of what position the a/c switch is in.

Turn your radio off, then turn the a/c onto full vent. Then slowly switch it to the other positions. As soon as you get to the "full floor" position, you'll hear the compressor kick on, whether the a/c switch is on or not.
