Thank god I found this forum!!

I need some serious help with my 2000 Protege. It all started this past Sunday when I left my lights on! Of course that led to my battery going dead. We tried to jump it and NOTHING! So I called my cousin to come look at it - he determined that I had a fuse problem. So for $2 we got my car running again, however I am still having other problems as a result of this.

Radio
Keyless Entry
Interior Light

All of those don't work!! Also, my check engine light is on. So I have no idea if that just needs to be reset or if something is wrong with the engine - though I doubt it since I only have 42K miles on it and have yet to encounter a problem before this.

Anyone have any insight on as to why those 3 things don't work. Is there another fuse that could possibly need to be replaced? (dunno) Its kinda strange that those 3 things don't work.

TIA!

Pam

Welcome to the forums! For the CEL I would suggest that you go to your local checker or other auto parts store and have them check what kind of code you have thrown. Did you connect the leads backwards when you jumped the car? There is a definite procedure to jumping a car, and you could blow a lot of fuses or worse if it's done incorrectly. Check the basics first- all of the fuses, inside the car and under the hood- Hope this helps

There's a fuse box in the driver's footwell near the door. Check those, as well.

If those are fine, you may need to use a multimeter and test each line.

P.S. don't leave your lights on overnight. :)

I KNEW there had to be another fuse box! I am leaving my office now to check them.

Thanks you two!!

Pam

Still have the CEL, though? that's a sign of possibly something else screwy.

You could reset the ecu and see if that solves the CEL problem- disconnect the battery for 5 minutes then reconnect it- it masy go away if there isn't really a problem

Yep, still have the CEL. Some guy here at work also suggested the battery disconnect. But - to be safe, I won't try that until I get home. My luck I would screw something up and be stuck in the city.

Thanks again everyone!

to reset the CEL I thought you had to press and hold the brake pedal for 30 seconds while the battery is disconnected

I just disconnected the negative battery terminal for 10 minutes. I also pumped the brakes just cus I heard that from someone too and it was reset when I reconnected the battery. It resets everything, radio stations, trip meter... unfortunately not the odometer though

I'm pretty sure that the brake trick was for only the subaru's- doesn't apply to us.
