I just recently moved, and got it's first oil change and used havoline. Is this a good brand to use?(regularoil not synthetic) Would it be alright to switch to synthetic or no? And finally, what brand do you guys/girls all use?

I think this may have been discussed before. Major brands of regular oil like havoline should be fine. Some say to wait 5-10k miles before switching to sythetic, others say it doesn't matter. Personally I'd switch maybe on the second oil change and I use mobil1.
Next oil change; I suggest you switch to a synthetic, such as MOBIL 1. That's all I use in both my Proteges. (thumb)

I use regular old Castrol oil. Still comes out clean 80k and rising.
Synthetic is a much cleaner oil for the car.

well i have about 18k miles on my car...and i believe all the dealers used was jus reg oil so would it be ok to switch? or jus stick wit the havoline? and also i might take it to another place to get the oil changed, would using a different brand hurt it?

use another brand?! Do you wanna blow up your engine or something?
Nah, switching will be fine as long it's not some el cheapo crap. Switch to synthetic if you want the ultimate in protection, but I don't think it is neccessary if you don't want to.

Exactly synthetic oil can get a little expesive here and there especially if you are having other people do it.

Jackyl -- Change your own oil, dude. All you need is a ratchet and a set of $20 car ramps. Then you can afford any kinda oil you want to use (Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Amsoil, Red Line) for less than what Jiffly Lube charges for their reprocessed 10W-30 Pennzoil.
If you've never worked on your own car, it might seem daunting. But, it's SOOOO easy.
BEST IN-STORE OF-THE-SHELF OIL is Mobil 1. I use synthetic 5W-30 Mobil 1. Synthetic is definetly better for newer cars

i thought that if you switched to synthetic that u always have to stay with synthetic? cause you cant mix the oils. thats what the dealer told me. my next oil change im switching over to mobile 1. just my 2 cents. (peep)

On mobil1's website they say switching is no problem.

people at the dealerships dont know what they talking about. If you car has alot of miles, then you will need to do the engine flush in order to get rid of the old oil particles. Then you can switch to synthetic. 1st oil change I just bought my own oil (mobil 1 synthetic) and went to the dealer and they put it in.
