I'm considering Progress and Eibach Sportlines. Sportlines will be lower, but I think the Progress springs are a little bit cheaper ($169 shipped from coximport.com), whereas Eibach's are usually much closer to $200 plus shipping.
Also, I can't seem to find any places that carry the Sportlines for the 99-03 Protege. Any tips? Where can I find them at the best price?
One final question - who has put the springs on their MSP or Protege themselves? I have done several spring/shock swaps on my CRX, but I've never worked with my Mazda. Is it difficult?
Thanks.

linear is when the springs have a constand amount of force that counteracts weight in turning, progressive have increased spring rates as the spring is progressively compressed. linear are more predictable and all around better but provide a slightly harsher ride wich i could give a fugg less about... and progressive have slightly more ride comfort but are slightly less predictable outside of cornering. I dislike my Tein S-tech springs. Too much drop in the front and not enough in the rear, doesn't look very level. Great for jumps off the line with out any spinning, but just doesn't look right. I've had them on for more then a month and thought they would settle, definately no pleased, I guess that's why there so cheap at around $160.

have you guys personally felt the difference in linear vs progressive? unless you autox or really need to tune your car i dont think you will notice a diff. Ive had pro kit, sportlines and ground controls on my cavalier. I can say that, on tuned struts the pro kit is nice, its not as bouncy, and by bouncy i mean oscillation wise. the sportlines are a nice drop but tend to wobble a bit more than pro kit. BUT for as low as they are i feel they handle nicely. And the ground controls are freakin stiff, mind you, you can get diff rates but the default ones are stiff and you can feel everything. They were ok, but personally i drive my car to much to stand the suspension that stiff. hope this helps a bit.

Also what is the difference between the prolines and the sportlines. All I saw on this thread was "dont but pro's, but sportlines" but why?
And if lets say I got the sportlines they will improve handling or atleast keep it the same right? I don't want something to feel "bouncy" I like the cars rock solid feel as it is.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I showed this to msp#735 (he is in the market for springs), and it seems like my car has more of a "raked" look that the other eibach sportline owners. Is it just me?

I'm considering Progress and Eibach Sportlines. Sportlines will be lower, but I think the Progress springs are a little bit cheaper ($169 shipped from coximport.com), whereas Eibach's are usually much closer to $200 plus shipping.
Also, I can't seem to find any places that carry the Sportlines for the 99-03 Protege. Any tips? Where can I find them at the best price?
One final question - who has put the springs on their MSP or Protege themselves? I have done several spring/shock swaps on my CRX, but I've never worked with my Mazda. Is it difficult?
Thanks.
Alex

I got a set of GoldLines in my garage, I just installed a set of custom Skunk2 coilovers. I love the way I was able to slam the car, but most people would want the stock Protege setup Skunk2 offers. I think all four springs are 6kg/mm and don't really know the height. I have seen 7" in front and 8" in back and 6" in front and 7" in back and also have seen different spring rates as well with Skunk2.
I am running 6" springs all the way around and have the fronts all the way down and the back down about an 1"1/2to 2" and have a lot more to go in the back if I wanted, but I noticed that I have not even a finger in front and the same in back. So it looks like the backs can go lower than the fronts.... and I have a higher spring rate due to the fact I'm going to be running 18" and be slammed and want to avoid rubbing....

Yes, go to Eibachs website and hit the buy button. It will give you a list of suppliers who have Sportlines still in stock. Note, that they are in limited supply!

alrite i got a question, from what i can see, the rear looks the same as mine on pro-kit, pro-kit = 1.4 F and 1.8 R, Sportlines = 1.8 F and 1.8R, so to me obviously it just lowers the front.

anyone on here chop the rear springs of a set of TEINS, since they are so high?
Dugg E Fresh

I hate to say it, but I had a friend take out a full coil. The rear fender lip is about 24 5/8" off the ground and the front is about 24 1/4" off the ground.
As soon as my camera gets fixed, I'll put up some pics.
I can't drive the car 'til next month; Does it need to be driven for them to settle? It still actually looks a little raked, even w/ them cut. I'm just really concerned that I'm going to bounce-bounce down the highway; I guess we'll see. If all else fails, I'll put the rear stockers back on.

These are the Ion Race spec springs which have settled a little lower in front than I really wanted. Obviously I'm on 18's with 215/40...just to give people an idea.
The front end bangs pretty bad on the tough Montreal roads....I can't see these stock struts lasting very long....oh well, coilovers in my future plans anyway.

daaayum, s-tech's down to $130 on ebay!!! Unfortunately I live in Cali so everyone wants to charge 8.25% sales tax... the highest sales tax in california is 7.5% and I live in that county! WTF!
That's nothing I live in Tennesse and where i live it is 9.75% so i would be happy with the 7.5%

Tein S-tech's. I put them on last weekend. Overall I'm pretty pleased with the final results. I don't think these pics to the springs justice. I fortunately did not get a raked look with them either. I also wish the drop would be just a bit lower but it still looks way better then stock.
