Just got finished installing my B&M short shifter and went out for a half hour ride on the town. I was amazed at how much better it is then that stock crap. And the install was a piece of cake too. I'm just really bored and don't feel like sleeping, so i figured i'd share.

quick question...were u able to reinstall the snap-ring?

me and a few others were installing a B&M in someones P5, and there was not enough room for the snap-ring to go back in...I think it was because the blue bushing would not go all the way down, but it felt very secure w/o it...

I remember when I installed mine it stuck out a bit too. I cant remeber what I did but something was wrong with the install. I took it off again and inspected it and corrected the problem. I just cant remember what I did. I think it has something to do with the plastic/rubber pieces on the shifter where you insert it in. Or something to do with a clip. I'll try to remember.

When I finished my install I couldnt re install my snap ring. So I didnt. That thing its not going anywhere. Ive had it on the car for a few months now and I havent had any problems whatsoever. I love it.

Yeh, me and one of my friends were both pushing down as hard as we could on the damn thing, and it still wouldn't sit all the way down. I pulled it back out, greased the hell out of it, then put it back in and it seemed to sit down a little further. You have to make sure that you are putting it in perfectly straight, otherwise it wont go all the way down because its such a tight fit. And you gotta push the o-ring way down back in that little slot to give enough room for the snap ring.

Now I remember, thanks. I lubed it all up and also inside the hole a bit at the edge. I then inserted the shifter again as strait as I could. After that I pushed that Snap Ring in as hard as I could. That rubber piece is going to want to resist but put presure on it. Should go in. After that all the rest went by fast.

Yeah I couldn't get it in either, it snapped in 2 when I tried to force it... It's not noticeable as long as I don't pull up on the shifter.

How does it feel compared to the stocker? I had a b$m in my eclipse and it was great but it did feel a bit "nitchier" than stock. How smooth is it compared to stock? Does it feel notchy at all? I would like to put one of these on my wifes mp5 but she hated the one in my eclipse. curious

Well, there is a good difference in the throw. It is a bit "nitchy" though, but i think i overtightened the bolt connecting it to the linkage and i actually like it a little tighter like that.

i just installed my b&m shortshifter!
it wasn't hard at all, i got the retainer ring to fit ok and didn't have to force it in at all. i cleaned and re-lubed everything well and it seems fine

what a difference though, i cannot wait to try it on the onramp.

i'm getting a custom shift boot, what do you guys recommend for a shift nob i'd like it to light up the gear setup preferably?

I installed my B&M last week... simple 20 minute install....except for the snap ring! After 3 minutes of expletives, it "snapped" right in. Great little shifter!

the stupid snap ring was all greasy and didn't come out without pliers or such for me, it seemed to pop right back in though

protegeV, it actually should be spelled veonix based on pronounciation but if it were the way you're refering, i would probally spell it fenix

p.s. just did some highway driving, truly a must for any manual tranny enthusiast

cheers
Nick

MSP knob should fit fine. MP3's are the only ones with oddball knobs.

has anybody had any type of noise come from the shift linkage or the KB bushing. i get this ticking sound from my shifter(had it befre i put the B&M in). when the car is in gear, generally louder in third, and you know how there is that slight play with the shifter(when in gear) where you can move it side to side just a tad, and if i move it the sound is more pronounced. has anyone noticed this. confused in jersey.

Oh hell yes I have this sound! It bothers me but I guess it is the price you pay, it's just the tranny vibrations coming through since you got rid of the mushy bushings. I still haven't gotten rid of my other shifter sound, the rattle if I push on it. I think I'll have to remove the heat shield.

Do you have to reinstall the white plastic o-rings? The b&m instructions say yes but some other on the internet say no!

And I've read that the b&m comes with its own aluminium housing that replaces the cheap plastic, so why do we have to re-insert the plastic o-rings?

You don't have to reinstall the white plastic pieces of shit. The B&M has its own housing so the white pieces don't need to be reinstalled.

i think i put one of those greesy things back in, the snap ring didn't give me any problems.
i didn't even have to push down hard like the instructions said, just a good amount of greese

the snap ring was a bitch for me. i got it out but couldn't get in back in. had to run to ABC to get the pliers. they worked like a dream.
