When I bought my car, the owner threw in a mazda geniune bra with it. He said I should cover the hooks in foil and go to a laundromat to wash it to get all the rocks and impurites out of the bra before re-using it, and thats what I'm going to do...but is there any chance that the washer doesn't get all of the dust, rocks, etc out of the bra and thus scratches my paint? Do I have to buy a new one? Does Mazda still make one for the protege even though it's a discontinued car? Thanks a bunch guys!

There is always some risk of dust or sand getting inside the bra, no matter how clean you've wash it or how new the bra is. There is a magnetic bra that is supposed to form fit the hood without leaving any possible gap for sand to get it. If not, you can go for a bug deflector or install the expensive 3M invisible bra.
