Deep. Not ricey at all. You'll be happy with it.

shouldn't sound ricey. I haven't heard it on the stock muffler, but it sounds more ballsy

I have the Apex 2.5" midpipe with the high-flow catalytic converter, but an otherwise stock exhaust. As remarked by pro5man, at idle and <= 3000 rpms, there seems to be essentially no difference between my setup and stock. If anything, the note is more "open" and "throaty," but not really louder. When the rpms climb past, say, 3000, the sound is a bit more aggressive and deeper, but only the tiniest bit louder. I really like the combination, but I should remark that I am not at all into loud exhaust notes.
My installer has the 3" catless midepipe from Apex on an otherwise stock exhaust, and I did not notice any major difference between his exhaust note and mine.

Ok, I found a pretty good set up for mine. I have the apex downpipe without the cat, and stock exhaust. Not really nifty but it get's better, at BandTMotorsports.com they have a full line of 2.5" and 3" exhaust cut-offs that's controlled electronically. I placed mine right behind the downpipe and let me tell you something, it's awesome and throws out crazy hp numbers when you open it up on the dyno even with the T-2slow I mean T-25 turbo. I have actual dyno print outs if anyone is interested.

Get one, you will like it a lot. Not so much for the noise, but rather the overall performance gains. As far as noise goes, it is a subtle difference from stock.
Performance wise, you will notice a stronger torque pull with it on. Combine it with 2.5" piping and a new muffler and you will be extremely satisfied. Especially if you are running more than 6.9 psi of boost! (hear ya)

03.5 YellowMSP (i think) dynoed 220 tq and 190 HP with open downpipe and an injen about a month ago. It was also outside and hot as balls.

should i spend the xtra 30$ on the 3" or just stay with the 2.5"?Depends on what you plan on doing to the car! 2.5in should be more then enought unless you plan on modding the hell out of it then I would say go 3in
