View Full Version : Colder plugs... where !?

I read a lot of threads that was debating about which plugs are great for our car and which one are not. I know our car come stock with the PZFR6F. For me, I wanna change them to use some colders plugs but I wanna stick with "extended reach plug" that are not made in copper (so basically I want Iridium or Platinium plugs). So the best like a previous user said would be to stick with the "ZFR" serie from NGK but pick a colder version of it !!! The problem though is that I cannot find any "PZFR7F" or "IZFR7F" plugs from NGK !???? Do they actually exist !?? If not which one could I get that are equivalent to those two ???
Thanks

I went to www.sparkplugs.com (http://www.sparkplugs.com) and did some cross referencing. I am using the Denso KJ22CR-L8's which are the equivalent to the NGK ZFR7F's (both are copper). The iridium equivalents to those are the Denso IK22, stock number 5310. Those are extended reach and one heat range colder than the stock plugs. They are $11.99 each there but you could probably go to AutoZone or somewhere like that and have them ordered for you. Hope this helps.

Where did you find some of those denso's? They are extended reach, copper, correct gap and colder....right?

The Denso's I have are the KJ22CR-L8's. They are the exact equivalent to the NGK ZFR7F's. They are extended reach, copper, one heat range colder (than stock), and they come pregapped to .8mm (approx. .032 in.). I got mine from www.sparkplugs.com (http://www.sparkplugs.com/). Total with shipping was less than $20. Have a good one.

I was running 10-12 but I took my MBC off today. Want to run stock boost until I get my iON FMIC and turbo-back. It'll make me appreciate them even more. By the way, these plugs are awesome. I was using the NGK BKR7E's and the car ran like crap. Once I put these on, it was like new.

Hey Allen, I ordered the KJ22CR-L8's from Sparkplugs.com myself. Hey did you change out your plugs on your own, if so how hard was it for you, and what tools would I need besides sockets to get the valve cover off?
Thanks for your help...

Yes, I did it myself. All you'll need to do is remove the valve cover, remove the 2 coil packs (12mm I think) and plug wires, and then remove the plugs. That's it. Also, don't do it when the engine is hot and don't torque the new plugs in super hard.

for the 7 series in the iridium feild goes as follows
ZFR7FIX-11 are what i have in my car now and yes they are the extended reach spark plugs. and keep in mind the 7 series are acually a 2 step colder than stock, stock being a FS minus the turbo, and with our turbo MSP already come with 1 step colder than stock which comes in the 6 series and in platinum (junk) i prefer either copper or iridiums, i have not tried silver though.

Why are they 2 step colder !? I tought we had ZFR6F !?? So 6 --> 7 = 1 step colder (dunno) !?? Are you using them on stock boost ?
Also, what do you mean by stock being a FS minus the turbo !?
Thanks

Wingman - you can get the PZFR7F-11 at Partsource or Canadian Tire (that's where i got mine) THey aint cheap but they seem to smooth out acceleration noticably.

How Much ? Are you running them at stock boost ?
Also, do you think its worth to go with iridum or platinium plugs are just fine !!??
Thanks

I dont remember exacty how much, just call them.
I think they're an improvement over the stock ones. You dont need them at stock boost but they cant hurt. Less likely to detonate.

wingman21 what i am saying is the BASE FS motor (2.0) come from the factory with a 5 series plug,( somebody please correct me if i am wrong) and our MSP's come with a 6 series NGK hence 1 step colder, and the 7 series NGK are technicaly 2 steps colder. with the 7 series is good for if you are running a higher rate of boost than stock to prevent the inevidable detonation but if you are running stock boost there really isn't any benefits from doing so als o keep in mind spark plug gap plays a big issue here also, for that they come from the factory with too much gap, i had to regap mine they came with a larger gap than was needed forgot how much, but i re-gapped mine down to .028 in. i tried them first at .032 and did not like how it felt, so i kept gapping them down until it felt better which is why i ended up at.028 with 93 octane, i have not tried 100 octane yet.

I know stock boost doesnt need colder plugs, but can they be bad or just more preventive !?

i gapped mine to 8mmyeah i have not converted over to mm. yet i still live in the darkages here.
but i also want to state that by using 100 octane gas does not give me more power but to even lessen the chance of detonation along with the next step colder in sparkplug heat range.(drive)

I know stock boost doesnt need colder plugs, but can they be bad or just more preventive !?well let me say this much when i was in my LT-1 days i would run 1 step colder than stock for nitrous puposes so when i would drive around town it effected drivability somewhat, but not much, now i do not know if the same would apply to stock boost with a colder heat range.
