YAY. After going 4 years of driving without a ticket or accident my streak was broken today by some dumb bitch behind me at a light... dont wanna tell the story but she rearended me and ill need a new bumper. anyone have any idea how much it costs for OEM bumper + paint + labor at a dealership?? Also-- could i get an 03.5 bumper lip on the new bumper for the same price???? Any estimates would be nice-- maybe ill just take the money and get hi boost fmic-- is that actually legal???

Thnx guys-- Stephen

have a mechanic look at it before you do anything. like pfizzle said, there could be other problems.

Just file a claim against her policy or turn it in to yours if she had no insurance. Its impossible to estimate the cost of repair without seeing the car.

Pick your repair shop wisely. You want everything to fit properly and for the paint to match.

Good luck.

hrmmm-- i guess i forgot to mention-- afterwards i noticed that the right tailight has a much larger gap between it and car than the other taillight has... to be honest ive never REALLY looked at it specifically before so i dont know if the bumper got twisted and bent a little bit just now or if it was like that before--- ARGHHHH FUCKIN IDIOTS shouldnt drive.

dont take it to a dealership, they will rape you for prices and never do a good job, because the body shop is not their business, selling cars and service work is where they make their money. Search around for a reputable body shop and have them do it, they have to do a good job otherwise theyll be out of business.

I had to find this out the hard way with my rear bumper. I kept taking it back to the dealer. First time paint was orange peel, then they couldnt get the bumper all the way up after three tries. Eventually I took it to my body shop and they did a great job.
good luck

If there is a gap larger in 1 tail ligth then the other, it sounds like there could be unibody damage. I would take it to a shop, or let your insurance adjuster look at it before you go making plans for your money. :D

go to the 3 most expensive body shops in town and get quotes.. then submit the quotes then go to a shop of your choice.. because your paint is going to be a pita to match.

w0rd-- an insurance claim is an insurance claim right?? as in-- my rates go up just as much if i get a $1000 repair job as compared to a $100 one rgiht?? i just hope my insurance company wont dictate where i can go or if i HAVE to try a dealership

No. A claim is either the insureds fault( you) or another party ( them).

Your rates will go up for at fault accidents( you caused them), speeding tickets, or if the state approves a rate increase for the insurance company.

Since you were rearended, its not your fault. As a driver you are charged with maintaining control of your car at all times. That means you have to be prepared to stop at all times. The other driver was probably cited for careless driving resulting in an accident.

Relax, go get your estimates and get your car fixed. A good shop will have no problem matching your paint. Look for a shop that has the "I-car" designation.

Some insurance companies will ONLY cut a check to the repair shop, oir the repair shop and yourself. Be careful. :D

Its similar to an "ASE" certification for mechanics. Only its not as common. A shop that has this will do great work.

Hey Stephen, take it to Mazda to get an estimate. Since the other drive took responsibility and is going to be paying for the repair cost, get the work done with OEM parts and at a Mazda shop. Don't worry about cost. I've been in this situation before, with my other cars. Hit me up on aim so you can tell me what happened, I don't know if you remember Luke S., but he was in an accident today too...

Yup. The Spicy Orange can be a real sonofabitch to get right. My mismatched paint on one fender is proof of how hard it is to properly match. Good luck, and make sure they understand it's a tri-coat. The base is a lighter, flat orange. The mid-coat should be a pepto-bismol pink with gold mica in it. You might see if the shop can still get one of the "paint kits" from Mazda with cans of all three coats ready to shoot.

I got hit a few months ago, insurance came up with a little over $500. The problem was the color, it's been painted 3 times and still does not match exactly, but tolerable. If you have some one do it, have them spray sample patches and compare with your bumper. We did this each time and paint looked like it matched but once painted and bumper on the car, yuck.

So really check it out. You can have the paint code but each brand comes out a little different, so really scrutize!!!!!!!

We tried and Mazda did not offer this yet, guess not a high demand such as normal color cars.

Good Luck, glad to see that I wasn't the only one who had trouble with this color paint.

As long as her insurace is paying for it milk her! Tell the body shop you want to back to stock and everything to line up PERFECTLY. Also you should get a rental out of this also...
