I was wondering if anyone ever tried to do a top speed test on the MSP, or knows what the real top speed on the MSP is??

I believe it's governed to 136. I have been as high as 120, haven't found a road long enough with out having to worry about cops.

Maybe I'm thinking more like 135 - I really dunno, as I didn't spend too much time staring down instead of forward! :D Either way, it hit it easily...no drama, smooth - sucks that there is no 'chip upgrade', like other cars - VW 1.8T's come to mind...

This thread has been done like 15 times and usually it turns into a flame war of drag limited vs governor vs. gear limited(ITS NOT GEAR LIMITED).
I have only personally seen 124 in mine.

Cmon now he said "really drunk" "race" and "Camaro" in that sentence. We are not talking rocket scientists here. He was driving, although when he realizes what he has admitted to he will say he wasn't.
If you really want proof read it again. "race ME" and "I remember LOOKING DOWN"

You guys are saying that the MSP aren't any faster than the Protege 5 they just get there faster.
I hit a limiter at 132 when I had the stock Protege 5 ECU then when I put in my MP3 ECU I hit the limiter at 135. I am in a basically almost stock P5. Check out my cardomain page if you really care about what is in my P5.
I know that on the track at ProtegeFest, I wasn't that far behind MSP's and they didn't pass me until high second gear and into 3rd. My reaction times are OK at .833 or something like that. would need to find the slips to be sure.
Any way have fun, but the drunk racing is well just plain..... you get the idea.

Had mine up to 190 km/h easily pre-flash this winter with Toyo winter tires, but then chickened out as the highway was wet (melting snow) and there was a fair amount of traffic. It pulled quite easily to that speed. I haven't had an opportunity to take it up past that yet now that the snow is gone and the stock tires are on. I guess now I have an excuse for a roadtrip.

mazdaspeedpower

The car goes to roughly 135mph, the limit changes with the weather, much like fuel cutoff at 10-12 PSI will do. Each car is also different, as is known just by how certain cars experienced different 'Hesitation' problems and such. Each car is different, but no matter which one you drive, the limit is 135mph, give or take one or two mph. Also, realize that tail wind, and grade(hills) will affect this speed, as will weather, and humidity.

It took a while to get it up there but i hit somewhere between 150 and 155 (speedo goes to 145) in my 99 civic si. only had intake, headers, and exhaust. stock ecu! damn thing hummed along at 8000 rpm no sweat. you would think an msp could top that what with turbos being extremely good and all. i cant help but miss that little rice burner. it was amusing how people would come up to me wether i was in my car or not and know who i was because of it. kind of freaky but amusing.

With mods, and precautions, we could hit 160, also, we would prolly need to change the final drive gear, and go well over 160. But, as I said, it would take mods, precautions, and I'm not to sure how well our car would handle at that speed with winds and shit, you'd prolly need to be lowered, and have a rear bumper defuser.

you could reach 160 stock most likely. try going down a hill. it negates the air resistance against your car because gravity is pulling you down. i used to own a malibu that cut out at 110 mph at 3500 rpm. i went down a hill at that speed can get her up too 127. not sure how but it worked.

I know this was mentioned previously, but everyone needs to realize that what your speedometer reads may not be your actual MPH. I know my g/f's Altima is off by 3-4 MPH by only 40 MPH. My Eclipse is off a couple as well. But they all read higher. Point is, it can say you are going 140, but in reality you are only going 135.
And to the person who asked why they would not go over 160, it would be because of gearing, not power. Basically any car should have enough power to max out the gears, but most are limited. And limited for a reason. Why is it that everyone wants to go faster than 135? By that time you are barely accelerating and just being dangerous. It is one thing if you were doing over 135 in the 1/4, but doing that on the highway for any more than a couple seconds is just stupid imho.

You have to cut your main wiring harness and then solder the tiny little wires together and if you run the coil wires wrong you fry them. It aint fun.
But when it works it works well.

the MSP is electronically speed limited @ 135mph, although your speedo may say different(since it's only accurate to about 3-4mph past 120 or so), the ECU prevents faster than 135MPH. there's a ground wire under the fuse box in the engine bay that you can cut that disables the electronic speed & rev limiter (and your ABS..) and will let you go beyond red-line , you won't be able to see how fast you're going on the stock speedo (obvisouly, since it tops @ 140) but with it cut, about 150MPH is possible

Need? No. Want? Yes.
It can control an additonal two injectors that are mounted in your IC pipe. Not only can it add more fuel but it also cools the mixture.
On a side note :) there aint no way in hell I would cut a wire and kill my ABS.

I was flooring it in 4th, but made sure I wasn't boosting full in 5th. I was surprised how fast it got up there. some Integra gsr was tailing me closely and was pissing me off so i decided to jump into the express lane and gun it. bye bye integra.

Hello all, I actually pinned mine at well over 140 mph. The speedometer needle was way past the 140 mark when fuel cut kicked in. I would say I was doing at least 150 or so and still had more pedal left. Of course this was after I had the ECU flashed at Mazda N.A. . Without a governor, I believe that this car could easily do 160 or better considering the power to weight ratio.(glare) (first)

unless you have at least $20K into engine/transmission modifications on your car, I doubt it.. just because of the fact that you'd be pushing 8-9K rpms.
edit: and because of the aerodynamics of the car.. it already produces alot of drag
