they say that women are better multitaskers naturally and so men concentrate more on driving while they try to do all kinds of stuff. of course since driving requires much more attention even if you can multitask it's bad for them to do anything. I can't do anything too complex while driving (like dialing a number) or else it can screw me up a little, but then again I just like being extremely aware of what's going on around me and avoiding all the idiots swerving into me.

Yeah women cause too much accidents especially the really hot ones walking down the street that make you turn around and look or the ones driving right next to you that give you a simile and distract you from realiziong that the traffic light is red up ahead!! (hah) . I have a lot of respect for women who can drive stick they tend to be the better drivers. Women who drive with an auto think that the car will magically drive it's self and be aware of the road for them while their doing stupid shit and not paying attention.

I've been rear ended twice by women in the last two years (not in the Pro thank goodness). Sunday I had to pull over and wait because a young stupid girl had one bare foot up on the dash, talking on her cell, and kept braking late behind me. Had the kids in the car and just had to get away from her.
But, I see plenty of bad male drivers also. I think it's about 50/50 myself, but the problem seems to be that women don't pay attention, and men are just crappy drivers. Almost anyone in a BMW is a bad driver I've noticed.

All I know is my friend got rear ended by a woman in a suburban on her cell phone with her child in the front with her...and my friend was going 65mph!! He was driving down the highway at night and she was going close to 100mph and I guess never saw him and slammed into the back of him. He now has very bad back pains from it (I have to listen to him whine all the time) and all he got was enough to pay for his car and pay off his credit card bills (which was about $4,000). He was driving a 2000 Camero when he got hit...now drives a 2001 Focus.

I agree with everyone. My gf drives a stick and drives fast, cuts people off when on her cell. When she is on a hurry and I have to be in the car with her I sit in the back sit and curl into a ball. She admits that sometimes she does her make up while driving, I dont want to picture that kind of driving. Damn women they always cut me off  .

Speaking of which (outie) How did you wreck your car again?! (loser) I am kidding of course! I just saw that you were a woman and posted here. I agree that there are a lot of women who can't drive though. I was in the car with my sister in law and she about killed us several times. Maybe insurance companies should take a look at this since guys 25 and under pay the most do to high risk drivers.

ZoomZoomH

talking on cell phone is ok as long as you are using a hands-free headset to talk.
cbcbd
05-26-2004, 02:34 PM
The thing is the disregard some people have to the seriousness of driving. They could be doing whatever, putting on makeup, talking on the cell, getting a foot massage - the ones who get into these accidents do these things, it distracts them, and they go into a "everyone has to look out for whatever stupid thing I do, it's not my responsibility" mode.
I drive like an "asshole" sometimes- by that I mean that I like driving fast and aggressive. The redeeaming point is that I take pride in the fact that I am always paying attention to what is going on (although I have a problem with backing up) and thrive on predicting the actions of drivers around me who could care less if there is a bright yellow car next to them when they decide to switch lanes into me without using their signals. I might run my car into a tree someday because I'm taking a corner too fast, but I won't rear end someone because I was talking on my cell (no excuse to not buy a handsfree system, it could stop so many accidents - it makes me nervous to do anything else and not have a 10 car buffer space in front of me.

talking on cell phone is ok as long as you are using a hands-free headset to talk. completely agree, makes a huge difference. Also, if you get a cell phone, I highly recommend getting one with voice activated dialing - it is so much easier than looking down at the cell and dialing/looking for a contact.
Red Zeppelin
05-26-2004, 02:38 PM
You are so right. All those people on the phone, reading the paper, eating lunch and putting on makeup while trying to operate a motor vehicle pose serious danger to everyone else on the road. Remember what you learned in Driver's Ed....10 and 2.
cbcbd
05-26-2004, 03:17 PM
The thing that is annoying is that some people just don't realize how distracting it is and won't even bother changing something when they do something else. ie. if they need to put on mascara they still do it on busy city streets and follow too close to the cars in front of them. I mean, if you're going to purposefully not pay 100% attention to the road, at least realize that you're driving is going to suffer and leaving more space in front of you would at least minimize the chance of an accident from your negligence.
Because the truth is that people won't stop doing shit in their cars, unless they kill someone doing that - but then that's just one person that learned the lesson.
People just have to start respecting cars more and becoming less afraid of them at the same time

The women driver-hating is a bit harsh... first off, I've been hit 3times in my driving career, and everytime it's bene their fault and a male. second, women are much less likely to get that sense that we're all guilty of that "yes I'm going fast, but I'm a good driver" somehow this justifies ignoring speedlimits, etc to us, and we treat public roads as if they were racetracks. I know very few fems who do that. These things I observed when I started roadbiking. Small target luckily, but also not exactly what a driver's looking for taking a corner at the limits. I've had to dive into ditches with my 1"wide 120psi tired 17#s of nothing roadbike WAY toomany times to avoid getting runover.
Butyes I agree that the real problem is a disregard for driving. It's become somuch just a part of routine for ppl that they fail to remember to respect the absolute power and potential danger that their 5000# SUV doing 80mph down the road hold.

I read a post here complaining that men pay more than women for insurance. Anyone stop to think that's because boys and young men 15 to 24 get in far more accidents than women in the same age group!? It's our own faults! When I turned 25 this year I saw a HUGE decrease in my premiums.
I think the generalization that women can't drive is bogus. It was my girlfriend who taught me how to drive a stick back in highschool. And my girlfriend now is a very observant driver... just gotta teach her to drive a stick. Instead of focusing all this grief towards women why not direct it at a group that really deserves it... the typical SUV junkie.
It drives me crazy every morning to be surrouned by GI-NORMUS, gas guzzling, road hogging trucks that (surprise, surprise) are only used for personal transport. Whats the sense in that!? The fact that 90% of these ass-holes drive like they were driving a sports sedan--added to the fact that any even moderate speed encounter with one of these behemoths would result in serious harm to my own person--or worse...
I hate to say it but I don't mind paying the high gas prices as long as I know it's hurting these people more (and keep in mind these are the FIRST people to bitch when gas goes up a nickle). Don't get me wrong, this is america, drive what you want. My mom drives an SUV, but she actually uses her 4x4 to camp and haul things; other than her own ass that is.
I've even come up with a solution to this problem. 1st, revoke the benefits that trucks get (no gas guzzler charge, lower emmision regs--except in the case of business use) and 2nd, require an advanced license to drive anything over 4,000 lbs.(like a chauffers license); this would discourage all but the cute-ute and car based SUVs, which reallly don't pose any threat.
I realize this is thread jacking but who really wants to listen to 4+ pages of guys bitching about women drivers... thread's in the wrong place anyway ;)
