HI

I just bought a used 2000 Mazda Protege ES. Can anyone give me directions on how to remove the factory fitted cd player so I can put my own in.

Thanks
Nick

I got the same..
Two plastic panels on each side of the unit can be removed using a flathead screwdriver. After they are removed you should see two holes on each side of the unit.

Bend a piece of a stiff coat hanger into 2 U shapes and insert one U into the two holes on one side and the other U into the two holes on the other side.

Then using light force pull them outward away from the middle of the unit. This presses two clips in so the player may slide out.

Last pull the entire unit toward you. The unit will slide out so you can disconnect the wire harness and antenna.

its easier to just buy a set of $2 ford removal tools. they work so much better than the coathanger method. or maybe some car audio place will let you use them for a minute.
