I must say, this is a great community here. I really learned a lot from everyone here. I've spent most of my time lurking and reading up on all the threads. :)

I just parted with my speed and bought an STi (the Subaru dealer gave me 13.5k for my msp!). Yup, it's expensive, but I feel it's a good move for me. Much aloha to you folks!

Cant blame the man for going STi over the MSP. Thats almost a no brainer. I love my MSP, but the STi is godlike in comparison.

Good luck with the new car !

it's not really fair (to either car) to compare the two. On one hand the STI is an absolute monster that few cars in any price range can compete with. Naturally ours (MSPs that is) are NOT even CLOSE to within the same price range. It's not a notch above but at least a couple... maybe even a few!

But even with that said, paying an extra $12k BETTER get you a lot more of what it is you're looking for. Few can argue how much bang for the buck our cars provide so, in many ways, the two are equal... just different.

speedhawaii: Yup, Big Island - Hilo Hawaii. I drive from Keaau to Hilo everyday, so there's a nice couple stretches of road that I can maybe utilize some of the gears. :)

CHICO2003: I had a little over 29k on the MSP. And I agree with you completely. A direct comparason of the two cars isn't fair (although having now owned both, it's impossible not to compare certain things to some degree). They're indeed two very different vehicles both in different classes and price ranges. If anyone puts that extra $$$ difference into their MSP performance, I think it would also be monsterous (even moreso in fact). Street performance bang for the buck, MSP is really quite special and fun. (rofl2)

But the WRX looks like ass...I would have went Evo or 350Z

i live there too. how much did u get your msp for? 13.5k is pretty good! i wanna go test drive one, one day. how much was the sti? did you have any mods to the msp that you may want to sell?

You live in Hilo too speedhawaii? Hell, I see a spicy cruising around now and then... That's probably you! (drinks)

I didn't mod my MSP (unless colder Denso plugs count). I had an Injen CAI on order, which I cancelled. I currently have CF eyelids coming in from Japan. I wanted those because they look different from any of the other eyelids I've seen locally (or on the net). I'll no longer be needing them once they come in, so I'll put em up for sale. They'll be brand new in box, so I should hopefully break even if someone buys. :)

Demonic-Speed: I wanted to at least check out a LanEvo, there there aren't any (on this island, to my knowledge). The 350Z only has two doors and I really wanted a 4-door "family saloon car". ;)

It's being sent in from Japan. I don't have a picture handy, but it looks pretty nice. I'll try and post an image sometime tomorrow.
If you're the only silver msp in town, then I've seen ya crusing around. I think I saw it the other day in morning traffic leaving Keaau. :)

yeah i would like to see the pic. yeah that was probably mine going out. But there is another one that has a "simple concepts" sticker on the windshield. your car is selling for 17k cause i went to mazda today.

so is there any other reason you went with the STi over the lanevo?

speedhawaii:
I attached an image of the CF eyelid (Hopefully I did it correctly). It has some nice contours on it, which is why I bought them. I'm eager to see what they are like when they arrive, hehe.
If you see a Black/Gold STi in the morning Keaau traffic, dats me (there was another back STi, but the kid totalled it recently apparently -- that's what the subaru guy told me. The kid didn't handle the power and basically let the car drive him. I hope he's okay though).

'Sploder:
I was unable to locate a dealer that had a LanEvo to test drive. I believe I'd have to take a flight to Honolulu to test one out (I live on the Big Island, so no LanEvo here). Believe me, I would have loved to check that car out also. The competition could have made the STi price a little lower too. :)

L8R:
Whoa, more Hawaii people on this forum than I thought! (cool)

thats interesting. there have been a couple of sti crashes already. i heard the evo would be more expensive anyways. you should check out the hawaii and m-spec forums.

Eh, sorry. I guess I watched too much Initial D, where they refer to it as a LanEvo. Maybe it's mostly a Japan thing (ie: http://www.lanevo.net/ ). Dunno.

how much was the eyelids? those would match nice with a cf hood.

They were $116 shipped from Japan. Still not in the mail yet... I guess it can take a little longer overseas. If you want, we can meet up sometime if you want to check them out. I'll just put them up in the marketplace otherwise.
Saw your car today parked by Sack-n-Save (if they was your msp).

Damn Loco, you really were lurking. The Hawaii crew never even knew you were around. Good move on the Sti. Seems like for all of their differences the two cars seem to hold beauty in the eyes of many of their owners. In other words there seem to be many MSP owners who either move into the Sti or would like to.

idk if i could afford that for some eye lids. btw thats not my car but i know who's one that is :). its titanium hehe.
