I got a customer who threw a rod threw the side of the block and mazda isn't covering it. I'm needing to source a FS-DE short block. Is the FS bottom end out of the MX6/626 2.0 the same bottom end?
Thanks

Check your local salvageyards.....I recently picked up a '02 protege5 2.0l engine complete from coils/wiring harness to all the brackets and sensors (even 02 sensors and manifold/cat.) for $420......oh the engine had 17k on it.

I've check the local yards, I live in the boonies.
It is a MSP, from what I have gathered the only difference in the n/a protege and the MSP is the heads, correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks

the engine between the msp, late model 626 and the protege are the same - the probe and mx6 are VERY similar. the heads are not different. the msp has an oil cooler wheras normal proteges do not from what i recall.

For the head you want an FS with the distributorless head. Read TheMAN's FAQ. The block however doesn't matter.

THe head is fine, its the bottom end which suffered a rod bolt faliure I believe, and threw a rod threw the side of the block.
