Oil Filter Part # 2003 Protege ES

I bought and installed a new Mazda oil filter on my 2003 Protege ES. The old oil filters part number is B6Y2 14 302 and the new one is JEYO 14 302 9A. The new oil filter is longer and has a smaller mating surface then the old one. My oil filter wrench doesent fit on the new filter because the body of the new filter is smaller. Did the parts guy at the dealership give me the wrong oil filter or is it just different because it is made by a different manufacturer - New is made in Europe - The old one is made by Tennex in USA. I already installed the new oil filter today - it threaded on and mated fine - but i am not sure if this is OK or not. Once again they are both Mazda oil filters. Thanks for any help.

should be a problem, if a problem does accure just sue the place that sold it to you.. just make sure u dont double o-ring it.... engines dont like that..

FYI - I talked to a Parts rep at the Mazda dealership and he said both oil filters are made for the Mazda Protege but the JEYO 14 302 9A has a larger filter media and is the one that they prefer to carry.
