hey guys

since we have our own NA section now, akhilleus and have been thinking of what we can do here.

first thought was a parts list, like the old mp3 list

2nd thought was a dyno thread (only posts with dyno graphs and mods - before and after graphs will be of great help). no discussion in this thread.

what else do we want?

post yuor ideas here and we'll see what we can do.

Hey Twilight, a buddy of mine has a Mitsu Eclipse, and he showed me this page that I would love for us to copy:

http://www.dsmhorsepower.com/upgradepaths/420aupgradepath.html

Basically, its one web page that tells you what mods are available, and what gains you will see from them. Of course, we could leave out the suspension/braking/turbo parts, since that isn't what this particular forum is about. Us N/A guys may not have enough info to fill this out totally, but we could get started. Plus the fact that we have way less parts on the market for our car vs. an Eclipse, so that should help too. Get this page started and make it a sticky at the top of the forum, to reduce somewhat the repetitive questions from new members.

We could even have it broken down by 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation Protege.

just an idea,

^^^ My comment above may be what you were talking about here:

"first thought was a parts list, like the old mp3 list"

I haven't seen that, so not sure.

I keep track of what mods have cost me, and I dyno every mod. I've done 18 runs since Feb, so I can tell everyone what every little thing has gotten me.

Definately a parts list that is more in depth than the mp3 parts list, in the general perf. section. But for modifications that aren't bolt on so to say...like pnp, misc mods, head work, pistons, exhaust etc...we should try to show dyno's. Basically any dyno's we can put on there would be great. For example Twilight could post his results. he will have three stages which will show various gains from certain mod combinations. Others could submit dyno's for things such as headers, exhaust, cams etc... The more available info will help newcomers focus their efforts and be realistic about gains and combinations. It might take time and could be constantly added to with data submitted to mods by members. Maybe twilight and I could even troll a bit to find old dyno's to get it started. Of course we dont want to give away too much but just something to guide the NA brethern.

scorch - that's a good starting point, but i was thinking in more detail.....and also with proof of power increases....which is why i was thinking of a pure dyno chart thread (akhilleus i've moved a few dyno threads over - mainly header related from memory). that was you can say with these mods, this is the power graph i got. atleast it'll give ideas (as well all know figures can vary from car to car and dyno tester to dyno tester)

sounds like a start. I will have some numbers very soon too.

I would also like to see at least links on good how-to information on mods you can do yourself for little or no cash- examples would be light port and polish on the intake manifold, gutting the pre-cat. Along with this info dyno's would be great! Info on the NGK extended reach plugs(which do seem to make a bit of a difference-TheMan had some good things to say about how/why they work) stuff like that BTW I am ecstatic that this area is started!

I have no idea why (I don't even have one anymore) but I have become very interested in seeing the NA protege market develope. To that extent I'd like to see us try and light the fires under some manufacturers asses to get a good solution for EM's going. I think the major factor holding back the Protege form making any real NA power is and always has been the computer. Be it Jet or super chips, AEM, MPI, haltec or anything else, having a solid and well develope and tested product will do more for NA protege tuning then anything else.

Even further on the break down from 1st Gen, 2nd Gen, and 3rd Gen.
Also go to engine sizes and transmissions, for those with automatics.

1st Gen
Engine
Transmission

2nd Gen
Engine
Transmission

3rd Gen
Engine
Transmission

How about NA specific how-tos?

twilightprotege

really the only NA specific how-to is air intake and header...

i'm trying to work on a list of parts at the moment when i can get some time free - it's taking a while

Cams are different with NA. Scavaging isn't important with FI. Lightweight components are favoured over strong components etc
