When did mazda drop the distributor cap from the protege?

the 2.0FS motor was the first in the Protege not to have one. I believe that the 1.6L and the 1.8L still both have one.

No, the 1.8 was DIS in 1999. The coil packs are on the front of the engine towards the driver's side.

yeah, i couldn't remember if the 1.8L still did or not...I haven't messed with the 1.8L too much so.....

The 1.6 has dual coil packs, not distributers either.
