the regular protege's ecu and the mp3 ecu are not the same, correct??

Correct. From what I understand there are minor differences in the MP3 ECU that squeeze the 10 extra horses out. The major difference is advanced timing based on the level of octane in the gas you use. 91 octane and above is recommended for the MP3 due to the fact that if you use anything less, the ECU will detect the knock, and retard the timing yielding you the same horsepower as a MP5, or Protege 2.0 ES! I use nothing but 93. This has also been covered before. If you didn'g already, please utilize the search function.

im trying to get my hands on a mp3 ecu for my 2002 mazda protege 5 does any one know what year, angine size and all that good stuff need to find the right one??? any info is greatly aprreciated
