I'm having issues with 2nd gear. If I rev high in a gear above 2nd and then downshift, it will grind and refuse to go in gear. WTF?

Could be a syncro gone on vacation hehe.
Well, I am not sure whether youre talking about shifting from first to second or third to second. If it's the former I ' ve had the same problem although it doesn't quite grind , but it is difficult to get in 2nd gear. The latter would happen because you're obviously reving high in third so downshifting into second would redline it.

That made sense for a minute... then I realized RPMs don't matter, speed does.
Revving up is not going to cause you to redline in second when you downshift from third. Downshifting to second going 50mph is.

I've had the same problem getting from first to second, it's often difficult,, especially if I carry first a little longer than normal, not a big deal though, just makes the shift a little slow. I was hoping that a kartboy or b&m might take care of the problem, but I don't guess the problem lies in the shifter, so I dunno if it would help or not. Anybody else with the same problem, think a shortshifter would help?

that's what I think. Mazda will be hearing from me tomorrow.
Also, I have to get a new clutch/flywheel before I go turbo...would NOW be a good time to get them being that they have to pull the tranny apart?

Either way, it never made me grind before. It would go in gear.

No, the shortshifter won't change anything. The problem is with the engine moving too much and the tranny...how you say....sucking.

Yes, if you are getting the tranny worked on it is a good time to get a clutch and/or flywheel. Mazda may even warranty it if they install it. Then again they could charge you the full price for the install even though they had to take the tranny out anyway, depends on how cool the service manager is.
Well,
If you are reving up high enough in third you'll be redlining in 2nd for sure and hitting the rev limiter like mad. I've done it couple of times when I first started auto crossing. Not good for the car.

This morning I revved to 50mph in 3rd (which I know 2nd can handle) and downshifted to 2nd. Went in fine. I tried numerous tests like this...and this morning, it passed them all. WTF?

I know from autoXing that I can get right up to 60 mph in second, but nothing past that. Shouldn't have a problem to there, but trying to downshift into second at 55+ would definitely be a bad idea.
