lately i have been noticing when i acceralate hard from a stop, but dont wheel hop or spin, and the car takes off and gets in the upper rpm range the car seems to fall on its face....like its bein choked? once it was so violent i felt my body pulled forward in my seat like i hit a brake...of course i was still accerating and as soon as i shifted at redline the car pulled again and i was put back in my seat......i was nervous at first that maybe my clutch was slippin slightly...but i can peel my 1st-2nd shift and smoke a nice lil burnout fine.....could this be a rich issue?...sometimes i can get rid of it if i keep it at part throttle and not wot.....i need a ems :(

what will happen if you have clutch slippage is when you shift your rpms will rev high but you wont shift, then all the sudden it will kick in. doesnt sound like thats whats happening here, so i would think you could eliminate that. at least thats what my rx7 did when its clutch went bad.

yeh i went thru 2 stock clutchs on my old 240...and the engine would rev faster then the car was actulaly goin....it just seemed the rpm were flyin up and the speed wasnt..like the clutch was slippin slighly......and my boost was building to..i though maybe i wasnt buildin boost for some reason .....i dunno.....im leanin towards that shitty ecu....

How much boost? Being thrown violently fowards sounds like fuel cut.

could either be a too rich situation or a boost leak. At high rpms it would pull the motor real far back, and my connection to the turbo would loosen and leak boost.

I second the "Instant Fuel Cut" theory. By the time you shift to 2nd it would have returned to normal...

from what my dtt shows im hititn my max boost...of course its never exact..some times .46-.54 hkpa.....of course it drops when i get towards redline but thats in all gears...
jersey - its not fuel cut..when i had my mbc i know what fuel cut is at 12psi lol...its not as violent as fuel cut but u def feel the force of the seat belt pushin on my shoulders until i get close to redline and shift and i get power back.....im gonna mess with it somemore...today i took off at opart throttle and it didnt seem choked like at wot....thats y im thinkin its the fuel right now

thank you, has anyone had this "chokin" issue besides me?

I am pretty sure you are already aware of the whole "running stupid rich" from the factory deal, however could the car be running even richer than that at certain rpms due to a sensor acting up causing the engine to temporarily flood?

OK I just cleaned up the thread, removing all off-topic posts

Sometimes mine will buck like a retard, accompanied by a turbulance-like sound. It usually either in first or second. But if i play with the throttle in 4th, keep the RPMs around 4 grand, i can get the same shit to happen. its kinda retarded.
just a little.
but no, i am not flashed either, nor do i care to be. The flash can suck rocks.
same thing happened with the FD..... replaced clutch, car felt like a god damn rocket ship afterwards.

hmmm pkay....does my issue make sense to u? i only have 9k on my odo and im complete stock...if its a clutch issue that suxs nuts.....but im still under warrenty :) i played with it today but couldnt reproduce the issues i was havin late last week and thru the weekend....the "chokin" issue isnt are sudden as a buck...although my car does that also but only at high rpm when i drop the gas or shift slow etc...that i knwo is the fuel lol.....this is more of a gradual stumble...like the car is fallin on its face as the engine is tryin to pull it...like its havin a hard time gettin the car to move......i dunno....im gonna give it a lil longer then take it to the shit hole of a dealer :(

Sounds like the "hesitation" to me. Has it been warmer lately where you are? It gets worse as temps go up. Is anything done to the car addressing the rich issue (FPR kit, flash, etc.)? You would know if the clutch was slipping- it would rev faster than you are going like you said and if you lift the throttle while it is doing it, the RPMS would suddenly drap to where they should be.
Sounds like the typical MSP "issues" to me.

i'm pretty sure joe is right
joe how does the FPR help with these problems in stock mode. Will that help me get more fuel or less? Or both...depending on what it needs to be. Like it keeps the pressure where it should be etc...?

depends on how you drive. my sister fucked up her eclipses clutch 4k miles into it due to her driving habits

The regulator on turbo cars is rising rate- it increases fuel pressure as boost pressure increases. Since the MSP is so damn rich and there is no practical way to adjust it (AFC or something), the most cost effective and practical way for most here was for me to go after fuel pressure (not everyone is building a race car and needs a piggy back or something). It basically tees a non adjustable checkvalve off the vacuum line for the regulator allowing it to maintain stock fuel for normal cruise and idle, however it bleeds off pressure while under boost and leans the AF ratio out a bit to keep the car from hesitating. I tested a bunch of different rate valves and picked this one because it bleeds off just enough to be effective, but still keeps the car on the rich side of safe.

yeh its been 90 degrees out from 60 a week ago lol....i figured it was fuel related cuys honestly i couldnt reproduce the problem consistently like i didn when my clutch was slippin on my 240.....thats for the help joe and pkay........

Just an Idea... reset the ECU. Unplug it (Pos on Battery) for 10 Min and see if it goes away, some other entire threads on hesitation were solved with this simple solution...

thank you, has anyone had this "chokin" issue besides me?I get it all the damn time. Now that the weather is warming up its getting worse. Time to invest in the Unichip and get myself a FMIC.

Not famaliar with the UInichip, but an FMIC will do nothing to alter the A/F ratio- just cover it up by intruducing cooler air into it. The problem isn't the IC, it is the fueling. If you had a properly tuned car, the stock IC will do a lot more than people think. Something needs to be done about the air fuel mixture and Mazda should have introduced a proper fix. Since they basically screwed you guys, that leaves my FPR kit, PerfWorks unit and the unichip (I guess?). Depending on what the goals are for the car, a piggyback or standalone system is not practical for a lot of people. Really would be nice to just get a simple AFC to work on the car for the majority of the people playing with them. Like I have said, that is why I made the FPR kit simple and cheap- for the average guy just wanting a better running car. If you are going much further, you will need some sort of fuel control. Anyway, sorry for the novel, just letting you know the problem isn't the IC, it is the fuel- all the CAI's and FMIC's in the world can only mask the rich mixture, not solve it.

JoeLol, the Unichip is engine tuning man. Just came out not to long ago, PnP baby!! I couldn't get the HKS unit to work for A/F so I'm going to try the Field SFC Hyper R in the near future, IF I don't have the money for the Unichip, Dastek makes some cool shit.
I was just mentioning the FMIC because I'm tired of mine being heat-soaked after 15 mins of driving.

yeh i plan to get the mpi tuner or unichip....i like the pnp of the unichip but also like the end user tunabilty of the mpi...although it snot pnp i dont like havin to hack up my harness.....in either case i plan to adress the fuel this summer....

Yeah, fuel control is the ONE thing I want to take car of badly. I don't even boost anymore than stock, I could hear the thing pinging like a mofo.
I like the MPI and AEM units its just that the Unichip doesnt take away from the stock look and no one can tell its installed. Plus, the idea of electronic boost control built into the unichip system is super nice.

yeh its the price that throws me off..if it was around 600 i would be on board but for 800 plus i can get a cheap laptop, mpi tuner with boost control and go to town......at this point im in the middle between the two if u cant tell.....if i see a good review for the unichip i may go towards it but 505zoom'z write up of the mpi was interesting and i like the setup...minus a few lil things :)

Who says you can't get the Unichip put it in and run in a stock class in AutoX, MUHA HAHAHAH!
The price is expensive, but, subie guys have all had good luck with Unichips.
