hey guys - i don't mean to be one of these people that sits here and talks all this stuff about how they don't like their car and so on. I love my car, havn't really ever had any problems with it and wouldn't trade it for anything. - BUT

Ever sense i bought the car i have noticed a little bit of pull - but it was never very consistant so i just figured thats how the car drove and you could actually feel every aspect of the road. At 8K my front brakes started making a grinding sound. I took the car in and they checked it out and right away said i had a hard spot in one of the pad's - no problem at all. They put new brake pads on the car. Great deal huh! Well at the same time the service rep was a little concerned with my tire wear. I had noticed it a little bit never became too concerned because i really didn't get down and inspect it. Anyway the dealer went ahead and alined it - so they said, but honestly don't think they did - and now im at 10500. I have rotated my tires twice and never really drive hard on them at all. The problem i am having now is - I HAVE NO TRED AT ALL IN THE FRONT - NONE. The tires are like slicks - but with 10K on them come on. The back two still have quite a bit, and the wear on all the tires is a little abnormal i would say. Well as of last week i have contacted the dealer closest to me (Houston TX) - Munday Mazda. They said last week (just talking to them on the phone) that they couldn't do anything, but they would forward it to the rep and i needed to furnish the rotation recipets. Thats fine - right. Well than today i call them up and tell them that im gonna stop in and bring them the reciepts and that they could also look at the car. He then basically tells me that there is nothing that they can do about it. He told me that the rep said they don't replace tires and that its just part of owning the car. He also told me that in a corvette you have to replace the tires every 10K and its just part of owning a car like ours. Well bullshit, i don't own a corvette and i know something is messed up. I then go ahead and call the rep who i bought the car from on the other side of houston - Jay Marks Mazda. Turns out, they were even more non-coroperative than Munday. They go and tell me that they don't warranty tires at all and said i was "wasting my time".

What do i do now?? Im being manhandled by these people. Im sorry, but i don't just have a grand sitting around for me to drop into tires every year, much less when i havn't even owned the car for a YEAR! I am very unsatisfied and quite frankly am so pissed at the moment - i would rather take off these tires and throw them through the show room windows of both dealers. Oh wait - if i did that and then go ahead andi put new tires on, i might have the same problem all over again. I can't even tell if my car is aligned properly because the tire's are so messed up at the moment.

I need help ASAP. Any advice please...

Thanks guys

not trying to be mean here, but your just going to have to accept that your driving a car with VEry high end tires on it, and this is what happens. Unless they have worn more on one side of the tire more then another, your out of luck. My fronts also have worn faster then the rears. And I rotate my tires every 5000 kms. My MP3 tires were almost bald at 20,000 kms. Tis life with a tire as soft as these. My advice, is go out and get a tire that that has a higher treadwear rating. these tires have a 140 rating which is about as low as you can get on a street tire. Your going to have to cough up some money for now ( not 1000 dollars, shop aorund) but the next tires should last longer.

also, ask them if they aligned the car with the MAzdaspeed specs, and make sure it wasn't the protege ES or P5. That would be the only chance of arguement you'll have. This is not Mazda's fault man, sorry.

Weird. I drive balls-out in the many twisty roads around here, and have just under half-tread on the Potenzas with 13.5k miles on the odometer.

Mazda doesn't warrenty tires, However I have seen it done. If you have a valid complaint (In which the info. you have shared says you don't, It's your fault you waited till 8k. for the dealer to correct a pulling problem you knew you had.), You can try bitching but I doubt it will get you anywhere. Sounds to me like it's your fault your tires wore out prematurely not mazdas.

have you had any curb checks lately?

Not to pile on here but lots of performance cars do a set of 'drive tires' in under 10,000 miles. My MSP is on it's third set of front tires at just over 28,000 miles and the 911 only gets about 8,000 miles on a set of rear tires.

(Which is good milage as the 911's autocross hoosier's only last about 20 minutes.)

Just the way it is.

Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?

I have 20k miles on the OEM rubber and ran autox street tire on them all last year, maybe 50 to 60 runs on them. They still have plenty of tread left before they get to the wear bars. There's nothing wrong with the rubber.

Ask to see the alignment numbers from the previous alignment done by the dealer. If he can't provide them, and they weren't on the service receipt, then you can try again to get an alignment check done. If the car has less than 12k miles and one year on it, and the alignment check shows it's way out of line, you may be able to convince the Mazda rep that it really is their problem since their dealer didn't align it properly when they did it. It's a long shot. I wouldn't get angry at them, but I would firmly insist on them checking the alignment and giving you a printout of the values.

If that doesn't work, then find a good alignment shop and pay them to put the alignment right BEFORE you buy new tires. Tires can last way longer than 10k miles on this car if it's properly aligned and you rotate the tires front to back every 5k miles.

Good luck.

They aren't $160. Get these, they are an upgrade for about $450 plus shipping, and the tread is (hump) .
