Race cars are supposed to be flashy and somewhat gaudy, so that they catch the eye. I like it, for a race car. But do you drive this one on the street as well? If so its a bit much. Also why not do a reflective white rising sun or one that is fading from a chromish to a white or visa versa?
This is where Im getting my whole orange and white thing- I LOVE the combo on both these cars - yours would look great like that too - and the white would jump at you on the orange background.

This car has sponsors so it needs to at least be flashy enough for a couple magazine appearances.
Everything on the car is magnet right now. Those three little magnets on the back door are Jay, Silent Bob, and AWR... they get moved around alot, just happen to be in the shot I used for the photoshop.
This car does drive on the streets... but I don't care to drive around a gaudy flashy smirk mobile. Especially since I've swapped cars with my wife and I drive around the super stealth Mazda MPV and she has to drive the race car around with the kids.

WTF are you talking about? Thats my damn car. Those aren't stickers on the rear door.. they're magnets... everything is magnets. The car is just plain spicy orange when its not racing. And I already said what those magnets are... its Jay and Silent Bob and an AWR logo. Jay and Silent Bob move around the car until I find a lucky spot for them. I only got three runs that day so they just stayed on the rear passenger door.
I got my rotas and falkens from machiii before the season started. I think I'm going to get a second set for my minivan... I like them alot.

You like just the sun graphic and not the race numbering? You know this is a race car right? They don't put my results down with little pictures of my side graphics...

For a race car - good to go (though I agree I'd like it better in white than transparent silver)
for a street car - kinda rice
I'd plan to paint the numbers also - they look like they'd melt into the graphic somewhat.
Reflective vinyl will make photographers hate you.
Since its got sponsorship maybe adding the sponsor decals on in photoshop also would help to see how it'd look...?
also - if your wife's driving it these days maybe you should be asking her if she minds the extra attention its gonna get....

I definitely love vinyl, but I'm not a big fan of the rising sun, only because I've seen it a bunch of times in magazines, and I never was an enourmous fan. But, I still thinks it cool. If it were me, I might find a different side graphic, but everybody is entitled to their own opinion!
Also, in my opinion, there is no such thing as too flashy for a daily driver!

Wheels are +45 offset... I knew I was going really low and was worried that +40 rotas would rub.
If I can find a vinyl shop that can do a 20% translucent cut then I might do it... I want it very very subtle... good for photos but not straight out gaudy when on the highway.

Sorry, Tom, but I don't like it. Save the money on the graphics and go for some professional looking numbers. Those are too plain. Take a look at Scotty White's Corvette out of Seattle. Vinyl package on a Z06 professionally done. Gorgeous colors, terrific numbers, real eye catching. Also expensive.
I like more of the stealth look. Simple numbers and lots of wax and polish, especially with that gorgeous orange paint. In the sunshine, that paint shouldn't be covered up!
On the other hand, it's your car so do what you want. After all, fast is fast no matter what the car looks like.

Use a diff color vinyl. Like something that's close to your orange color, but w/ a reflective material. Get rid of the magnets. Put the Mazda logo down on the rear bumper instead.
DistantTea

Things that CANNOT MOVE. No mazda logo can move, no numbers can move, no scca 4"x8" can move... that leaves the well like jay and silent bob (which just happen to be on the car for that photo in some random spot) and grassroots. Everything else on there is either because of SCCA rules or contengency money.
I didn't want an opinion on the magnets, just the vinyl idea to see if it flys. The magnets will not change... ever... unless we change the font, but thats it.

That looks sick as hell!
Sorry, but I think it is extremely ricey for a street car. For a dedicated racecar, maybe, but not an autocross car. Sponsors favorite graphics are always their names really big, but I'm sure some like to have the car set apart in some way. Make sure the compensation is enough for doing that to your car. If its just a contingency program, then no flashines is needed, just results.
Just my opinion, and I have to admit that I can't stand vinyl graphics on street driven cars in any form so I'm biased.

I would go with white reflective and chameleon (purple, gold, blue), those are the colors i owuld use on orange, and as for the design, im not crazy about at all. How about a checkored flag coming from the drivers side front headlight coming back at an angle down towards the fender (or even down the fender) and then another checkerd flag on the drivers side coming fromt he rear tail light down the rear quarter panel and a little on the back door, andjust put some type of font just after the checkored flags... maybe something like what i designed for my uncles OrangeBMW M3 www.advancedautosports.com (http://www.advancedautosports.com/)<SCOTT end Graphic>

That looks great, but nobody is paying me THAT much to get their name that large on my car 24/7. I just wanted a reaction to a vinyl study on the MSP and I got it. If I get a full season sponsor, then yeah I'd do something like that. But right now all I have are parts sponsors so they get their names smaller and inline with each other.

Yeah I'm starting to not like it... basicly if you think something gaudy like that would work you need to put the photoshop onto your desktop and look at it all damn day... then if after a week you still think "gee Mavis, I like dem dar purty colors" then go for it. But if after a week you start thinking "That looks like ass... or rice... or rice ass" then it may not be the best idea.
Instead I'm going to get a big Fast and Furious movie logo put on the side of the car and redo the interior in pink faux rabbit fur.

You dont have any need to do anything tthat big with the name, he owns advanced autosports, and thats why he wanted to go all out like that. But you could take some of the design and work with that if you want, like perhaps the checkord flag idea but instead of like that, maybe you could do a double layer checkored flag with the chamelean casting a reflective white backdrop coming out of the front wheels back to like the first 1/4 of the back door, i dunno im just throwin shit out there

If you do a checkered flag, only do the black squares and let the orange paint fill where the white squares would be. The black vinyl will pick up the black wheels color, too. The checkered flag should be shaped like it's waving in the wind so the car looks fast just standing still. I've also seen the graphics near the tail of the car look like they're coming apart from the wind and scattering off the back of the car. Adds speed feel to the graphics. See Nismo R Tune graphics job in SCC.
