View Full Version : Looking for a new MSP?

Hey, guys!

I've seen a few threads about people looking for MSPs. I was at a dealer here in Baton Rouge (Diamond Mazda -- http://www.diamondmazda.com (http://www.diamondmazda.com/)) today, and they still have 5 new MSP's on the lot. They have two sunlight silver, two yellow, and one black mica.

I asked the sales manager about them and mentioned that I had seen people on this site looking for them, and he told me to relay that he was really trying to unload them and would make a great offer to anyone and was willing to make delivery arrangements.

I don't have a history from that dealership (I didn't even buy my P5 there), but I just thought I'd pass this info along.

Damit, I would have given my left nut for a black one....OK maybe not really my left nut, but something like that:)

Sorry, but he didn't mention anything about accepting testicles for trade-in... However, I must admit that I didn't ask. I guess anything is negotiable.

I guess it depends on how desperate the dealer is to unload them...

No, he didn't get into specifics. But, I could tell that he really wanted to get them off the lot (probably because he's getting pressured for ordering so many).

I could check with them and ask for their "best price" if a couple of people are interested.

Let me know...

I'd be interested in that black one, though realistically this'll be a logistics nightmare to sell my Protege and get an MSP in Louisiana.

yeah, If you don't mind, please ask how much they are going for, I'll take the trip down there.

Update:

I spoke with the Sales Manager this morning. He said that for any of the 5 vehicles (two sunlight silver, two yellow, and one black mica), he'd sell them for $16.5k out the door including destination. If you live outside of LA, you don't have to pay LA sales tax on the vehicle (9%!) -- you'd pay it when you register it in your state.

If any of you guys buy one from him, please let me know! He said he'd give me some credit for each one that I referred to him towards a Mazda6 that I'm looking at for my wife. Just tell him when you talk to him that Robert Breedlove told you about this on Mazda Forums. I would really appreciate it.

If you're interested in calling him directly, call Richard Andre at Diamond Mazda. Their phone number is (225) 295-3900.

Good luck to all of you. If anyone gets one, I'm glad I could help out!

msubullyfan

By the way -- I think there's a good chance you could talk him down from the $16.5k. He said they'd already had to write off the cars, so they're really looking to get rid of them.

He must be very popular or not particularly organized. His voicemail was full, but I left a message with the receptionist. I'd really like that black MSP, but I'm not holding my breath on making this work if distance is too big a bitch.

Yeah, I don't blame you. If it were me, they'd have to make it worth my while to drive/fly a long way to do the deal or pay a few hundred bucks to have the car shipped.

Good luck.

Hope you guys get a good deal and it works out. I could use the money for a 6 for my wife (5-door or wagon -- can't decide which). I'm jealous -- I want one of the silver ones BAAAAAAAD, but a MSP just doesn't fit what I need.

I think it's going to be a real classic someday!

I have no idea. I don't have any involvement with the dealership (I only asked about the MSPs when I was on the lot looking at Mazda6's this week).

He sounded pretty eager to get rid of them. If you guys want to know the truth, I think you might be able to name your own conditions on this one -- he seemed pretty intent on getting them off the lot. I know for a fact that those same 5 vehicles have been sitting there for months and months!

Well, if he's that interested, he sure as hell isn't showing it. Not only is his voicemail still full, but the first time I left a message with the receptionist he didn't get back to me until real late, and I'm still waiting for a call back from this morning.

I have a friend who is looking to get a new MSP & he is here in South FL. I've heard people talk about getting cars shipped from another state when they aren't available where you live. Can someone tell me more about this & give me an idea what it would cost?

In case anyone is interested... Orange Ford/Mazda in Albany, NY had two yellow MSPs last I knew. A month or so ago, my father bought a Silver one for $16,200. The sales guys said they really wanted to get rid of the last MSPs, I would not be surprised if they'd take around $15,500 or so.

OK, my friend just came over & checked out my car & took it for a little spin. He is now sold on the MSP & wants a Titanium, so if anyone knows of anyone new ones around here or that can be shipped here, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! :D

Can anyone tell me, when you ship a car from another dealer, do you make the deal with the dealer that had the car or with the local dealer it gets shipped to?

I always go to a dealer, tell them exactly what I want, and then have them find it (exept my P5, where I found it at mazdausa.com and printed the sheet out and gave it to them). They have it brought over.

About shipping charges -- I've done it several times and never been charged for it. That's just my experience. However, paying something for the shipping does make sense to me, because I'm sure that someone ends up paying for the cost of shipping it.

By the way -- the dealer here doesn't have titanium, but does have 2 silver ones.

Any luck, Kain? If Andre hasn't called you yet, I spoke to a sales guy yesterday while looking at cars who said he would definitely, positively take care of you ASAP. His name is Michael Bergeron.

Keep me posted on how this is going. Looks like I'm about to buy something from them.

That dude never called me back. I don't like dealing with unprofessional people, especially when it comes to something as expensive as a car.

I'll give that Michael a chance, but my patience is wearing thin with that dealership.

That's interesting.

I met Mr. Andre last night when I bought an MPV for my wife. I asked him about calling you back, and he said that he never got your second message. He also said that he shares the desk with another sales manager and that somsone else had moved your contact information and he couldn't find it. He would be glad to talk to you about the car, but he doesn't know how to get in touch with you.

I guess it could be BS, but it sounds like it's an honest mistake on his part. I also asked Michael Bergeron, and he said he hadn't gotten a message from you.

If you can't get them, let me know. Now that I've bought something from them, I should be able to get through to them for you if you need me to.

Good luck!

My wife decided on the MPV (I was totally shocked). They'll probably still give me a bird-dog fee, but that doesn't matter all that much. Just trying to help out.

I have yet to call Michael (have too many things going on at the moment). Realistically even if this did take place I'm looking more at end of May or June.

I hope you told that first guy that he needs to clean out his voicemail, otherwise he'll lose other potential deals, if he wasn't BSing.

If it was just buying a car on his lot, I don't think it would be any different than buying one locally, aside from shipping the car halfway across the country. No, the problem is that I have a car that I'm making payments on now, and that I'd be trading in my current car for one of the MSPs in LA. I don't know how they want to do this, if they want to use a dealer local to me as a go-between or if I want to buy an MSP from my friend who works at the local Mazda dealer and have them arrange a dealer exchange.

No, and I'm done talking with them. I left a voicemail for Michael, to which he didn't bother to call back until 5 days later. Then he told me the black and the silvers were sold, and all they had left was the yellow. Thanks a bunch, Mikey.

Then he calls back 4 days after that and says one of the guys who bought a silver couldn't come up with the money and backed out. All that did was make me angry; if the car wasn't "sold" (i.e. money exchanged hands), then don't fucking tell me it was. I ended up just saying "no thanks" and hanging up.

I can't understand for the life of me why they didn't really want to put in the effort to get rid of the MSPs. Guess they forgot that a car sitting on the lot doesn't make them any money!

Heck, I may go down there this weekend and see if they'll take $14k for one of the silver ones.

So let me get this straight. They do still have one silver and two yellows right? I just totalled my MSP and I want another one badly. I would have preferred to get another titanium but I've not been able to find any. And as far as I know too, there's none left here in FL. I can't recall ever seeing a silver one but I would have preferred to get either a titanium or blue. Since that doesn't seem possible, I'd go with the yellow I guess. Anyone have pics of the silver ones? The only thing with the yellow is that it's not a deep rich yellow - but I'd live with it.

Hey how much did you pay for yours? I just called and the Sales Manager was busy so I spoke with another sales person and he's saying the asking price is $17,900. I told them I heard about it through this forum and I was asked the name of the person who told me but I couldn't remember that it was Robert. Next time I call I'll tell them. But what's up with the switch from $16500 to $17900?

I'll be sure to tell them your name if I buy it. Right now I want a better deal than I got on my previous MSP ($1000 down, $301.96 per month for 66 months) but this dealer is reluctant to do so. Hopefully I can talk them down.

Invoice from last year is the same as invoice now. Anyone that still has one on the lot has had to write them off by now and will be looking to get rid of them ASAP. I don't think it's a stretch to get one for $15.5k. No dealer can claim that they're a hot item now, 'cause anyone who's still got one has had it for 6 months or so.

They still have a yellow one at Diamond Mazda. I spoke to them yesterday. First off, they NEVER call you back, I always have to call them. I spoke to a salesperson named Ray, mentioned the referrals and all. Because of the recent "surge in popularity" he said he won't sell it for anything less than 18,5. I said have a nice day and I'll look elsewhere.

I knew I smelled "stealership" from just talking with them. You hit the nail right on the head with that one.
