after putting on a downpipe does it give out a bad smell? is it strong enough for the cops to smell it and pull you over?

As long as you don't floor it.. the cop shouldn't smell it until hes probably 1 - 2 cars behind you (while cruising). I'd just custom weld a hi-flow cat if possible.

But under WOT... You can smell that 20+++ cars away.

no cats = stinky pipes.
I will no soon enough just how bad it is once i get my exhaust installed.
I will probably be adding a hi-flow cat soon.

Smells like fuel. Everyone with downpipe w/o cats have that problem. Even some Hi-flow cats will stink a little but its still legal.

do you burn more gas with a downpipe?

do you burn more gas with a downpipe? No Just the unburnt fuel is usually absorbed by the cat's...

How much do you get on the streets? Currently im getting 25 mph on the streets with fmic/d/p/exhaust and intake. Also i like to hit it a couple of times here and there.

How about if you still have 1 cat? I plan on installing my wanger header when it arrives and keeping the 1st cat but opting to go for the cheaper mid-pipe which is the one without the cat. So would it smell and how bad?

I have the Apex downpipe with high flow cat. No smell, a slightly deeper/louder sound, and on rare occasions, a little backfiring

jersey...what kinds of gains did you get? Also, I've read so many things about downpipes, i can't keep all the info straight. With a dp/high flow cat, will you get a cel and/or can you still pass inspection? Basically, I'm not sure if it's the dp that has the o2 bung or if it's somewhere else.

No CEL, should pass emissions.

Awesome power gain...the car pulls much harder...and it pulls all the way to redline.

anyways... The Powergains with no cats are around 9 - 10 whp on a clayton Dyno (not sure what they are on a dyno jet) By putting a 3" exhaust you can get an additional 3 - 4 whp on a clayton dyno on top of the D/p Gains.

what do you all think no cats or high flow cats? is the smell that bad?

I say go with the single hi-flow cat....to maintain legality, and to not have to bother with a MIL eliminator.

The ~4 HP difference just isn't worth the possible trouble.

I am running a 2.5 Apex catless. No smell or CEL as of yet. Each region has different fuel additives at the pump, that could be the cause of the smell, which could be increased with the use of an aftermarket downpipe.

A little off topic here but do you think I will pass emissions here in NY with this future combo I plan on doing. wagner ss header ====> Hi-flow pre-cat===>Wagner N/A Downpipe===> Wagner Cat-less Midpipe===> HKS axle-back exhaust.

I haven't noticed much of smell in my 3in catless and I'm a recovering boost addict that's not doing so well :-) I think my car might not be running as rich as others, either. No matter how hard I try, I can't get it back fire!

wow, mine backfires on demand even with a hi-flow magnaflow.

by the way the stench is gone.
i was shaking everytime there was a cop driving behind me.
