View Full Version : torn between modification and not

Let me start at the beginning and make it quick
my last car was a 1991 rx7 turbo-II w/ full intake, exhaust, bov, TT, boost gauge, and 1 bar gears 1-4...etc... It was pushing around 315-330hp.
It blew up on me....twice.
The car was fucking awesome though, and my next car will definatly be a rotary.
well when it broke i got my mazdaspeed and im torn on whether i should modify it or not. keep in mind my next car will be a 2007/2008 rx7 (if they come to america). It seems like a shit load of people are modifying their mazdaspeeds, and i know that finding a stock turboII was something of a beautiful thing.
My only modifications would be a hard cold pipe w/ blitz bov, boost gauge (already off the rx7), CAI, and TT. I want a 'little' bit more power, but more then anything i want to hear the turbo more and be able to hear my bov once again...i really miss hearing a strong (loud) spool. I will not be modifying my exhaust except maybe (just maybe) the downpipe alone.
help me decide. I want to keep my car stock for value purposes..but direct bolt ons w/ NO FUEL MODIFICATION; might be okay.

Id mod the speed for now until you get your other car.

intake and boost controller, not too expensive, great bang for the buck

white turbo tIIs are so damn sexy... but my suggestion is to go ahead and do your basic bolt ons to the MSP... intake, MBC and gauge, and maybe a nice downpipe or exhaust. Makes the car so much more fun to drive.. :)
I agree with Notorious. It sounds like for you the MSP is just a placeholder until/if Mazda brings the RX-7 back in a few years. If that's the case, do some light, cheap mods and save your dinero for putting a downpayment/modding the RX-7.

if you wanna hear that turbo again, put on an intake and/or an exhaust cutout. you'll be hearing both turbines spoolin then :D. also interested in seeing how the blitz bov will behave on an msp cause that's the one i want.

Is the Rx-7 even coming back out? Thats along time to wait for a car lol! Thats kind of like me with a skyline. Im saving my money for when it comes to the us one day. lol not sure when though should be around the same time as the rx7.

.7 bar would be fine. I think that you could go a little more though if you fork out the $30 or whatever it is for the FCD.

.7-.8 kg.cm2 is fine with good gas, colder plugs, also helps to have a more freed up exhaust. Youll hear our bpv much more with an intake, but youll need to get a single hardpipe at least if you wanna run a bov. It can be mounted directly to the plastic with certain methods, but if you just get the one pipe made then you can switch it back to stock. check out the modders guide up at the top of the msp section.
i vote mod!

They sure are...I don't remember if Timmy is a member on here, but in addition to this, he has a P5.

I would do all the basic bolt ons, everyone has been very happy on here with their bolt ons it seems. who knows, you may be so happy with the MSP after some bolt ons etc. you may want to take it a step further.

Well, keep in mind you already have plans for a new car in 2-3 years. Now think about the resale value of your "virgin" MSP vs. a "modded" MSP. If I'm a potential buyer, I'll take the stock over the modded any day of the week. It shows that you weren't out trashing the car every weekend.
But whatever you decide, make sure to keep paperwork on everything, i.e., oil changes, mods, etc. This demonstates that you are responsible, and have cared for your vehicle. This will pay off big-time when you sell your car. Good Luck!

Mod it. It will just up the value of my stock MSP ;) The real reason I'm not is I can only afford to build one vehichle at a time and I don't want to void my warranty. (notcool)
btw.. i never heard of the FE.. anyone have any pics???

well, 2007/2008 is a long time, by then i dont plan on having the 'speed either (new BMW 3 series) But as soon as my new business takes off im modding it out, but not too bad im just doing cat back exhaust, lowering springs, guages, and profec b, ( already have cai) i mean thats enough for me. as long as i will hit mid 14s ill be ok. but i dont wanna go insane with it just yet id ont think my car can handle it without getting serious mods done... have fun with your car now, do what makes you happy, and you will love the car more than you do now...
just my $.02
