View Full Version : Hard decision for the MSP

Well I need to make a decision and its just so hard! Maybe you guys could help me out.

Well I got Forged rods here... So all i need is the Rod Bearings and Pistons which would be roughly 900 dollars.

OR

I could save up more and replace my warped rotors with Stop Tech Rotors for $1600.00 dollars!

Help!!!!

Jeff congratulations you win the award for the longest sig ever.

Now fix it.

It would be awesome to have the internals but at the same time brakes are a must. Personally i wouldnt want you driving behind me knowing your brakes might go lol... (spin)

get the internals... fuck the brakes... but then again check my sig

Finish the internals, if you need brakes that bad you can get some cheaper rotors for the time being.

off subject, but how do you get your sig to do that?

Well the thing that got me going is that we have a display of a stop tech rotor for the protege's. I put that thing next to my car.... and DRool it looks so awesome... I can't even explain it. Forged internals... whos gonna see that =(

Internals... once you can go really fast, then worry about stopping. Not untill then :D

off subject, but how do you get your sig to do that?put marquee in <> and </> around what u want to scroll. only works with ie

brakes. they are awesome ..

(or maybe i just dont want others joing the ranks of the "forged")...

internals are always nice, but i say brakes and then fuel management with stock internals. Spoolin mp3 tuned our stock bottom end up to 16-17 psi on a 16g turbop i believe. Get fuel management and all will be well.

I'd actually go with the brakes. The pistons and rod bearings aren't broke (yet). The brakes are.

And besides, you already got the weakest link in our engines strengthened...the rods.

Option 3, get rid of the POS. :D

just gimme your money and you wont have to worry about making any type of decision.

or...get the internals. :D

Use that money to paint your car bright red and put large "Swingline" decals on the sides, hood and trunk. Then have a mannequin of Milton Waddams put in the passenger seat drinking a mai tai.

Or do something less functional like internals or brakes. ;)

edit,
thanks noclue for that cool marquee trick! :D

I would get the brakes when your car is fast enough that you would actually need them. No need for them right now imo. I would finish off the motor then worry about a big brake kit.

hahahahah my sig is all fucked up!

btw, I would get forged if it's between the 2

I'm a brake advocate, and think very highly of stopping power; One of the reasons I bought the Protege5 over anything else is it had four wheel disk brakes! However, with that in mind, I say go forged; Finish the project you've already started, so to speak, and get the engine bulletproof, then throw on those beastly brakes. =) I _SO_ want four POT calipers up front, but then I won't be able to fit my winter wheels and tires. Grrr.

Jeff@Tri-Point
04-15-2004, 01:20 PM
Haha well... If i do go with Internals Then I gotta go with a Standalone to make it worth wild for these pistons... haha. so stopping power i would imagine would get put on hold for a while.

I said No Salt.. NO salt!!

(rofl)

I voted internals. Get some stock brake replacements for now.. youve got hte motor half built, finish it up.

Really its not. Especially when you have a stop tech rotor to look at...

internals -> EMS -> brakes

i would have gone with some EMS before the internals, but i think the above is a good route in your situation. even before big brakes, you could get OEM rotors and some bobcat pads. with the stoptech's you'll need spacers too.

I'm just trying to justify if its worth spending that much money on brakes... personally i'm thinking to the point no.... I'd rather have it so i don't have to walk or even tow my car home running 12 psi one of these days.

they add rotating mass, which makes it a little harder for the engine to turn the wheels

i was about to buy the brakes myself......but then I used the template to test fit under my rims.

I have 42 offset 18s whose spokes bulge in just the right place to accomodate big calipers, but using the template i would still need 10-15mm spacers for the stoptech kit to fit. Im ridiculously disappointed that I couldnt get the kit, had wanted it for sooo long and finally saved up for it. But after doing some research and reading about the safety issues with spacers (not to mention rubbing) it wasnt even an option for me :(

im just going to be going with stock sized xdrilled ones from corksport now....

d00d, i know you're looking at the precision brakes now, but what about www.rr-racing.com (http://www.rr-racing.com) 's kit?

INTERNALS....and with money left over buy some vinyl and neons.

The stock breaks are fine...rotors are cheap.

nick @ perfworks for the pistons..

cunningham rods were from our engine builder. Used... Good deal. Just need to buy the racing rod bearings from them.
