I talk with a owner of a High speed shop and the suspension for the 3 is going to be avaible in 3 or 4 weeks.

I ask the local mazda shop were I purchased my Mz3 and they said the navi assembly could not be purchased without getting the electronical assembly with it. I just wanted the housing to put a LCD monitor in so that I could hook up the xbox.

Am I getting what you saying correctly. $150 for the housing alone.

Sweeeeeet!! It's about time somebody found out. $140 is nothing for keeping the stock look to your 3 with your own custom installed parts. I think I'll have to start calling around here to see if I can get it cheaper, or else I'll DEFINITELY order it from FL.

wow, $140 is a bit steep.. how big of an LCD can you fit in it?

The GPS screen is an LCD 7" screen. I'm going to try call the dealer, and be 100% sure before ordering, I will let know.

$150 is really cheap if you think about it, anything from the dealer you should expect to pay an exorbatent amout, I'd like to know how that works out for you, be sure and keep us updated with pics and stuffs

^^ that's true, i guess i should always expect the dealer to rape my wallet..

that being said, i'd love to see some pictures of an LCD in the mazda3. doesn't sound too hard to hook up, and could be a cheap way to add mp3 and other goodies to the car =)

I am just going with a complete custom look. After they told me that I had to pay $2200 for the entire assembly I was frustated with Mazda. I am in the process of having the dash piece custom fiberglassed with an aftermarket HU. Where the factory HU is located I am getting my screen put in.

What are you doing about the LCD that has the radio info and the a/c things on it. Does it still work with the aircon even if you take out the headunit, or are you scrapping it all together?

Yea someone please post for sure if its avail for $150, its not a bad price at all.

wait, so is it $150 or $2200?

Um..... I think he was referring to the whole assembly being $2,200 (i.e. flip up module + screen...... maybe NAV) which is rather odd considering it's only about $1500 to add NAV to your ride. The $150 is for just the piece that goes in the dash that holds the screen.... minus all the electronics.

Gotcha...... figured as much.... Well hopefully we WILL be able to get just the dash piece for $140-$150 as mentioned earlier.

I am just scraping the entire stock headunit and in its place will be a fiberglass assembly with an 8" screen. Above the screen were the display is will be gone as well. In its place is going to be red lexan with 4 switches across for interior neons, underbody neons, strobes, etc.... I will post as soon as the headunit assembly is complete. Although I will be waiting a little longer to have the screen put in because of the need for more money.

Well I live in ontario and today tried to go and order the flip up part and was told that I can not just order the plastic vent panel but i Can order the entire assembley for $2900.00 :( Well I am very dispaointed because i was really looking foward to my carputer. I dont know if this is only for Canada though. Maybe the USA can order just the vent panel?? Any one???

has anyone tried saying that the plastic component to the nav system is "broken" and you would like to order a replacement to fix the broken plastic piece =))??

Fat Mike - do you know exactly what is included by the 'entire assembly'. At $2,900cdn, does that include the entire NAV screen and NAV player? That'd be interesting because a non-NAV Mazda3 cannot be retrofitted with the Mazda3 NAV system (way too much time, effort, and cost).

splitvizion

why would it be way to much time, effort, and cost. The wiring cannot be that hard. Right

$2900.00 Was for the Nav Screen, Flip Up Part and Control unit that goes beside shifter. THe DVD Reader and GPS Antenna is a seperate piece. Has any one tried ordering the flip up part in the states wiht any luck??

wongpres

splitvizion - It's essentially impossible to retrofit because there are so many parts & sensors and the wiring is very difficult to do after the vehicle has been assembled (in fact, the wiring would have to be done a bit differently). In terms of cost, it's probably cheaper to trade in the vehicle, take the hit, and purchase another one with NAV.

As an aside, automatic climate control is similar as well. Someone looked heavily into it for a Mazda6 - it's just under 10 sensors, a ton of wiring, and just the ACC unit was well over a grand $US. So similarly, it's cheaper to just trade in and purchase another vehicle with ACC.

alot of people complain of the acc cause instead of staying at a constant setting it changes automaticly...sometimes it's not as comfortable as you would like it. We all have regrets on the options we did and didn't get....way of life...

i spoke with a couple mazda dealers (including the one in florida), it does not appear that its possible to purchase just the navigation housing. The part number given above is for the normal top dash center piece. If someone comes up with somehting else soon, let me know or im just gona make my own.

we just replicated the stock fold up monitor for our project car, and we plan to make it available. I will post pics after HIN chicago this weekend.

This is not true. I own both the 6 and the 3. My 6 has ACC and I can set it to Auto or Manual. Maybe other countries can't, but in the US you can change to either setting. Just an FYI

I would be interested in this if the quality and finish match the
Mazda 3 dash. What kind of lcd panel did you mount in it?
Is it a touchscreen? I sat in a Mazda 3 with the stock Nav unit
and I thought the lcd screen is set a little to far back to reach
for a touch screen. I could reach it but it was a stretch. The closer
the screen is to the driver the more pratical it would be.

Well it is to far set back for touch screen, we will be using a gyroscope mouse (works in the air) for pc operations, otherwise possibly configure voice control. The screen is brand new, should be on the market come SEMA this year, its power acoustik. Sounds funny cause some of their products are second rate, but i promise you its the best monitor on the market. People literally stared into the car watching the screen for 10 minutes at a time. There is no fade on this screen from any angle. All in all the module will cost around $500 (hopefully less) and will be motorized fold up. i plan to post pics from HIN chicago, of the prototype we had in the car.

I think I would also just be interested in the lcd enclosure.
Have you had a chance to post the pics from HIN Chicago?
Will they be posted in this forum or on another site? Thanks.

Ok, I just called Mazda East in Orlando and the guy tells me that the part with the flip screen and push button is not part B32H5531XE for $150. It's something else. According to him he said that this piece is $2930 without the dvd rom unit. This is crazy ! Its a simple plastic piece with a 7" screen in it, how expensive can that be ? Anyways, I'll keep searching. Anyone find anything else on this ?

Thanks
