View Full Version : I've been voided!

Heh, fuck my area's mazda service department. I took my car in today to see if my new sub had came in (blown of course). Well of course their "mazdaspeed expert" (an underpaid 50 year old man) noticed my injen decals (NO FLAMES, decals rock! and add horses ;) ) Asked me if I had replaced the callaway air induction system. Of course I responded, "I just have the decals for looks" so the old man decides to open my door and pop the hood without even asking me. Notices the cai and begins to explain how it voided my warranty. I began to explain that aftermarket products could not void a cars warranty (especially for a f*cking blown sub) unless it can be proven that the product caused the problem. Once again, the old man decides to get into my car and open my glove box without asking and pulls out my owners manual. He then proceeds to show me the statement they make about aftermarket products voiding my warranty. So yeah, I'm pretty p*ssed. I'm positive they can't do this, but taking legal matters is just a little too much trouble for me. Any suggestions?

What dealership?
I left a dealership for that very reason and found another that was reasonable.

First off, beat the fucker over the head for messing with your shit. He can't just pop your hood let alone go in your glove box.
The aftermarket part has to be proven to have resulted in the breaking the stock part.
If the turkey from your Injen blew your sub, then you would be screwed.
Find another dealer, that guy is a fuck-stick.
Callaway Air Induction System, now that's funny.

Yeah it's messed up but I think the problem may have started when you lied to the guy about not having a CAI.

Yeah the problem is that to prove them wrong often times requires legal action, which unless you have the money is just too much of a burden.

I was just about to come in here and ask if it was a good idea to go in to get my car flashed with my INjen CAI and GReddy SP2 on it, or should I take them off, put on the stock parts, and then go in to get it flashed? ANyone had this problem before?

I'd switch back to stock just to avoid hassle. I always do, but I don't have to remove my exhaust(don't have an aftermarket one)...yet.

it also depends on who you know there. they refused to do the flash for me, told me to drive a hour and a half away after i said that the other place would do it. and in nov. they gouged the bumper and tried to say they didn't do it, it buffed out but how in the hell it came out i have no clue... i'm not a fan of any dealership yet. i wish they had a fix it yourself plan, it breaks, they give you the parts and you do the work yourself.

Hah, thanks everyone for the feedback. ESP simdrew. I called the dealership back and asked to speak to the Service Manager. Very cool guy, appologized for the hassle that was given to me as well as tried to explain that the car dealership can still hold the right to refuse service for aftermarket products. Even with the law (which thanks to the article from sidrew, I was able to hold a conversation on). He said they are usually very lenient in this type of matter, but mazda has thrown a red flag up for this car when it comes to these types of situations. So basically we have the shittiest car for modding as far as keeping a warranty is concerned. But however, he said he will still honor my warranty as far as I don't take the modifications to an extreme. So hey, it turned out good. Once again, thanks for all your help.

This is why I had my dealer install my TT for me. I'm lucky to have a cool service dept. with a cool mechanic who likes doing stuff to my car.

That sucks, you definitely shouldn't have lied to him though. I'd take it to another dealership and see what they say, although they might have flagged you in their computers. Sorry to hear about it, but your warranty should definitely remain intact. Contact MNAO.

as far as people getting hassled and not wanting to pay for legal fees (this has a much better chance of happening in larger situations):
you should be able to find an attorney to work off of the potential to collect attorney's fees from Mazda. they should only have to write a few threatening letters on legal letterhead and your problem will generally be solved. though even if it does get more serious, it's still no money out of your pocket, you should get an engagement letter which (be sure it does) states the relationship between yourself and your attorney (legal duties and financial responsibilities). just a suggestion, it may work, it may not, but there are enough weasel plaintiffs' attorneys out there that you should be able to find someone.
Yup, all depends where you go...I took my car in for the flash with intake and full exhaust. They didn't say anything about it.
