Everyone,
We are designing a new product, and would like to get feedback on gauges that any of you might use/know about that is SMALLER than 52mm (2 1/16".
Please advise.
Thanks!

That is the standard but I have heard of smaller ones but it escapes me who made them.

yea if your making some sort of gauge pod, then do it in 52mm or 60mm or you wont sell any, since probably no one has gauges any smaller.

I think HKS makes 40mm ones.

Autometer makes some that are 1 1/2 inches, but limited functions. Most of thiers are 2 1/16 or 2 5/8.

I think 2 1/16 is already really small. I can't imagine having a smaller size gauge.

52 meter are most popular. Most JDM companies make 60mm gauges. I can only think of Greddy and Apex that make 52mm...I think
I know a couple guys have really small boost gauges...like a jackson racing boost gauge mounted on the steering column...but dont know the specs. Its much like the optional boost gauge on the new Subaru STi. Maybe you should stop by your local subaru dealers and check that out.

Well I think he want the gauge smaller then 52mm so it fits in that pocket under the stero. 52mm gauges fit perfectly in the pocket under the radio...I have VDO gauges with a insert designed by www.42draftdesigns.com (http://www.42draftdesigns.com) . They design VW stuff that fits in our cars.
It fits perfectly...looks like it came with the car:

Perfectly flat...nothing sticking out like the autometer aluminum looking ring. It fits perfectly in where the "CD wallet" use to be. The gauges arent protruding out...just nice and flat.

You have to remove the pocket to install the single DIN 3 gauge plate.

Here is the delio.
The smallest gauges I can find are HKS 46mm. The largest circle I can make with the existing R1 dimensions is like 1.5" securely. So this doesn't work. The best thing (which we are working on) is to replace the pocket with a plate that can be easily mounted (i.e. figuring out how to attach it right now) with either 1,2, or 3 52mm gauges (yeah, I have the 42 draft design one also) or that and a combination of electronics. With this being said, WHAT DOES EVERYONE WANT?

I think a plate with a place for 1 52mm gauge and a place for a turbo timer and/or EBC would be word.

Bump for 03MSP-Brian :D
Off-topic...does the VDO standard 3-gauge panel fit *exactly* into the slot vacated by the pocket? This is exactly what I've been looking for.
Thanks!

You can get DIN gague holders all over the net. Search google for them. Then you buy the 52mm gagues of your choice and install it under the radio. The 42 draft desing is darn cheap...VDO gagues are cheap is why.

The 42draftdesigns package is attractive to me since I can source everything from one place in a kit and get good quality and a decent price at the same time. Time and money.

I think this would be cool, also how my vote would be for a two 52mm gauge DIN panel. I don't think there would be much of a market for a three 52mm gauge panel b/c there are so many out there, unless the quality of your piece surpasses all the others.

I like the idea of having a spot for one gauge, a turbotimer and an ebc. That would look hawt.
