hi guys,

I just talked to a local shop about getting Rota wheels. For those of you who do not know, they are affordable but extremely light wheels. I enquired about two models and here is the info:

Subzeros:

Wheel Sizes: 15x6.5" +40, 16x7" +40, 17x7.5" +45 or +48, 18x7.5" +45 or +48
Wheel weight: 15"-12lbs, 16"-14.5lbs, 17"-16.5lbs, 18"-19lbs
Wheel color: silver w/polish lip, bronze, gun metallic, black, white, gold, steel Gray

Slipstreams:

Wheel specs: 15x6.5" +40mm offset, 16x7" +40, or 45mm offset
Colors: white, silver, gun metallic, black, bronze, steel Gray
Wheel weight: 15" -12lbs. 16" -13.5lbs

The price I got is 1950$ cdn with Kuhmo tires, tax included !
or 340$ cdn each (tax in)

That is for 17" subzeros or 16" Slipstreams. Apparently slipstreams are more expensive.

The only catch is I gotta get at least 5 people to sign up. Like I said you have to pickup the wheels in Montreal so I guess this deal is only for local people. I think the price is real good, and we can get other models too www.rotawheels.com

I have seen the subzeros on a couple of Proteges and it looks real sharp, not to mention they are super light !!!!

Let me know if you are interested dhjunk@yahoo.com

The 17 and 18" +48 offsets will not fit the Proteges without additional maching. Just an FYI. I guarantee you'll have a bunch of pissed off people.

I thought this info might help you guys out a bit. I know cause I got them to make it and we're the ones doing the machining. Any shop can do it who has a lathe but few will.

well my Sub-zeros work perfect with a 48= offset. Actually had Henry at Revelutionmotorsports call the distributer as well as my friends shop here in town and they were both given the answer that a 48+ is the correct ofset. So unless you want to help everyone and tell them what you think you konw and they dont shut up. all you do is say i can tell you that is not it but u have to buy from me to get the right ones. this board is toi help others not to cash in on them. Not trying to be a dick Rishie but I have had the 48+ on the 17's verified by 2 shops with the distributor for Rota and they both gave me the same answer. plus I have had mine on for over 4 months and never had any trouble

I've been saying what the problem is this whole time and it's been posted before several times. I'm here to help. I'm not looking for your business just letting you guys know that the hub depth should have been a problem.

That's amazing that yours worked. Do you use the centercaps? Did you have to remove your dustcaps from the rear? Tell us what you had to do to make them work?

All the wheels I fit did not sit flush on the hub because there wasn't enough depth for the hub in the centerbore of the wheel. Therefore we have had to machine out additional material from inside where the hubring would sit.

Is that specific enough? I've been here for a long time and have been helping out tons of people. I do believe that I've been quite consistent with my answers and was probably the first to begin disclosing fitment issues on the protege5.

Did you mount them on the car yourself or did the shop? There's a reason why yours went on and we need to know that. If you're interested in helping the situation I'd suggest you offer info as to how yours fit without additional machining.

I didn't even ask for business in the previous post. I came here to help and frankly I'm quite insulted by your implication.

Thanks, Rishie

I did have to pop the dust caps of the back but other than that they fit fine. Sorry about that I forgot about the dust caps. I did not mean to jones on you was just saying that the rots dist. for north AMerice says that do fit, althought the dust caps have to go

That's cool yours fit with the dustcaps off. I've fit some okay like that but not others. Kinda varies.

Were you able to retain use of the centercaps?

Thanks, Rishie

Just trying to keep information update.

yes, I was able to use the center caps. Would you mind sharing what offset you have found to be the correct one?

+48 is correct on that wheel it's just the hub depth that needed to be increased.

have you had to do it on all the sub-zeros for the p5's or just some of them? Not saying that I did not trust you before, in fact i beleive you and that rota could probably use some help when they cast the wheels.

ARD MP5

I did it to all of them because the first 6 sets brought in all had this issue. I'm amazed that your's bolted right on after removing the dust caps. Usually there's still a couple mm of room still needed.

I do it to all of them as a policy to ensure fitment of the centercaps. That's why our prices are about $25.00 to $50.00 more than anyone else. These will fit Hondas just fine, it's the Mazda that has a pretty deep hub in the rear.

I know Rotas to be track proven, even on road courses. It's crazy, but hey they're cheap and light.

I'm curious about the pic of the RSX with the Gunmetal polished lip Sub Zero's. Is that a custom thing, because to my knowledge they don't make a Dark Gunmetal w/polished.

That wheel is produced in that finish. Let me know if you're interested. I'm special ordering the special offset.

Hold it!!!! I smell something is burning!!!!

Come on guys, we are here to share information. Whether you buy it or not, its all up to you. Nobody is against anybody here!!

RSX...where are you? Don't you have to say something???? What is the true and correct offset for Protege5. Is there any fitment problem with those 2 wheels?? Did you contact ROTA wheels directly.

I believe, we have to listen to the manufacturer. If they said that will fit, then, it should. But, just to be sure, I will call Rota on Monday to find out.

By-the-way, I am the "local shop" who is selling the group buy. I will keep you guys posted. Thanks anyway RSX !!

I would not suggest a 7" width with a +40 offset. And for the record I would not "always" listen to the manufacturer as for fitment. True if they say it fits and it doesn't, they are liable but that's a waste of time and money.

I'm here to protect the dealers and customers from having these issues. Cosmic Marketting is only 15 miles away from me and I know Cecil and Kim quite well. They would trust my fitment advice.

For a 7" width I would reccommend a +45 offset. However it's possible on a P5 that you could fit the +40 7" with the stock size tire. But I do know that you would rub with a 205/45/16.

Hope this helps you from making any mistakes Sparcko.

There's a difference in fitment between the P5 and the sedan. THe P5 follows similar to the high offset prelude and accord fitment. Where rubbing occurs in the rear.

Thanks! I will take your advice.

But, if I give the stock tire ( 195/5016 ), 16x17" ET40 should be no problem at all. Right??? In case if I change a larger size ( 205/45/16 ), then I iwll need ET45. Right??? What about on 17" with 205/40ZR17 ??? Is ET40 OK?????

:D

To ensure fitment with the 195 on the 7" +40 we would need to test this. Something I have not done. So don't take my word for it.

To do a 205 on a 7" width you'll need a minimum of a +42 and possibly a little negative camber upon full compression of the strut.

I have a fitment recipe floating around. SEveral of the members know about P5's odd requirements.
