I bought a set of ROH Fury rims after I saw them on the "Project Protege" car that I saw on this site.

I decided not to "Plus Size" because of the road conditions up here, but I did want something wider (they're 17x7 instead of 17x6.5) giving me a lot less overhang over the front wheels.

I got some aftermarket chrome wheels because the ones they had on the car werent really cool looking.

Thanks guys! I bought the rims locally, I've had ROH before on both of my previous vehicles so my experience with them has been great. The finish I chose on these rims is what ROH calls their "Chrome Shadow" finish which I think hides the brake dust a bit better than their regular silver finish.

The tire size is actually the same as stock, 205/50r17, but I got rid of the crappy Goodyear RS-As and picked up a set of Yokohama ES100s since many on this board have been very happy with them in the past.

I won't be lowering my car any time soon, I like how it looks. If I decided to "Plus Size" the rims and tires then I would have definitely had to lower it.

that's a good question. I would imagine it would because aftermarket wheels may have a different tire pressure than the stock wheels. the system is basically a little radio transmitter in the valve cap that reports back to the on board CPU.. you may have to talk to your dealer about disabling the TPMS if you get new rims..

this is just my theory anyway, it could be wrong.

I'm a technician at Discount Tire Co. and was just wondering if anyone knew the lug pattern on the Mazda3? 5-100 or 5-110?

Anyways, if you go +1 size over your stock wheel size but keep the stock tire size you won't have any problems with the vehicle *raising*
Personally I'm going to go 18x7.5 with Falken Ziex Ze512's in 215/40/18 or 225/35/18. Not totally sure on what Wheel to go with. My style is usually 5-7 spoke with the lugs covered with a centercap, similar to what Konig does.

But I wanted to give a lot of you guys a heads up on the air sensor valve stems. If you are going to get the wheel worked on in any way, such as a flat repair,etc in which the tire will be removed from the wheel and you wish to keep everything intact make sure you let the technician/salesman know that your vehicle is equiped with air sensors and must be removed with care.

Basically, these things are like a regular valve stem with a little black box that rests right below the bead line of the wheel. To remove the sensor, simply unscrew the cap from the top of the wheel( as if you were taking the valve cap off to check the air) and push the sensor down so it drops to the bottom of the wheel. The reason that is this important is that most tire changers use a bar or rod that runs along the bead to pull the tire up and over the top of the wheel, which will damage and even destroy the sensor if it is not removed. Not only does this save the company money, but saves you the aggravation of having to get another sensor, get it installed and get it tuned to the ecu. That little valve sensor costs approx $250-300.00.
Also I don't know that if it is not on the vehicle whether it pops a code or not, so you may need to go to the dealership and get that checked out.

Anyways, IF I get my Mazda3 5s, the first thing going on it is a set of 18's MWHAAHA AHAAHA AHAHAh........ (pow)

The manual does have a detailed way to reset the TPMS and it's pretty easy.

The 3s is 5 lug, not sure on the spacing or offset.

Here are the vital statistics to the Mazda3 wheels:
Bolt Pattern: 5x114.3mm or 5x4.5in
Offset: +52.5mm
Stock wheel/tire size: 17x6.5 (S model wheels), 205/50R17 tyres

Here are some other tire wheels combos that will work:
17x7 or 17x7.5 wheels with 215/45R17 tyres.... 225/40R17 will fit if the offset is right....
18x7 or 18x7.5 wheels with 215/40R18 tyres
These are combinations that I know will fit with the right offset... now I know some of you are asking "what is the right offset?" Use the offset calculator on this website http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html. The "new" position should not extend more than 16-17mm from the stock in order to avoiding rubbing. Remember, 50mm offset on a 7in wide wheel will result in a different position from an 8in wide wheel. Also, the Mazda3 has slightly wider fenders at the rear, thus the front wheels will seem like they stick out more, especially with a low offset (such as +42 on a 17x7 wheel).

Hey again guys, I finally bought my 3 about 3 weeks ago. YAY!!!! (hump)

Got my wheels and they are Falken Hanabi's rolling on Yokohama Rubber.
18X7 +43offset (wheel has 2 bolt patterns but does have 5X114.3 and 5X100)
In satin silver on a Sunlight Silver 3S. Yokohamas are AVS ES100 225/40/18. As many of you know I'm a fan of falken tires, but I couldnt pass up a good deal on the yokohamas( $125.00 each)

Still trying to get some digital pics, but the weather in Jax, FL sucks really bad right now, it's rained everyday for the past 3weeks.

But anyways if your vehicle is equiped with the TPS system and you are looking to transfer it to your new set of wheels you will want to ask the store you are asking for if it will fit your new wheels. as of the moment there's approx 25-40 wheels that TPS will NOT transfer to, due to valve hole size.
Every tire/wheel retailer SHOULD have a list avail to them.

hey Rock, the wheels look sweet! but do they sell left/right wheels? my only thought is that the car would not look symmetrical, on one side the wheels twist "forward" and on the other side of the car they twist "backwards"

I know exactly what you mean, I thought they were direction wheels and would need 2 lefts and 2 rights. I scared myself b/c I thought I got 4 rights, but they are 1 way. They look like they spin backwards. I love how they look, IMO they compliment the curves of the hatchback. Can't wait to get my Tein coilover system!!! They are also pretty light at around 10-12lbs minus the tires. They look like they were machine cut out of solid block of aluminum alloy lol. I'll try to get some pics asap, maybe today if I can get my Dad to loan me his digital camera. Let me warn you ahead of time I haven't been able to wash my car for 3weeks or so, so the whole car is a little dirty.
