As it says, I'm trying to switch back to my RH, but my winter tires are stuck to the wheel hubs and won't come off. Tried spraying WD-40, driving slowly around the block with the lugnuts loose, and kicking it. HELP!!!!!!

Had the same problem....the rear ones right?

I took a rubber mallet and beat the crap out it and it finally knocked loose.

i kick the bottom of the tire and it eventually knocks it loose. a mallet is good too tho...never thought of that

don't have a rubber mallet, I'm in school, no tools man except my tq wrench for tightenning down the wheels

edit: and yes it's the rear left one. I got the right rear one loose just by shaking it, but that left 1 is a bitch.

I work at a tire shop, kick it from behind. Lay on the ground that will do the trick no doubt. When you get it off put some anti-seeze on the wheel hub and it should be okay.

Behind like my feet are facing the inside of the tire and my head is at the other tire right?

Yeah I would not do that If you just have the car up on a jack. It's too easy to knock it off the jack. Lots of people have died from doing things like that. If you wer on a lift or something yeah but not on a jack. Use the rubber mallet, hammer and board, a big rock, they're steelies man you wont hurt em that bad.

if the car is on jackstands would it be safe to kick it still? they're alot more stable than just a floor jack.

I just reach my arms around and moved the rim back and forth. Finally it the tire and wheel came off sending my ass straight to the ground with a wheel sitting on top of me...LOL I'll have to try the mallet thing next winter!

Kind of off topic but not really: on the rear hubs, did you guys notice that the studs for the lugs to bolt to move a little??? Mine did, and they said that was normal... Oh well, wheel and tire hasn't fallen off while driving yet and that was well over a month ago..haha

They are, but also remember that they are attched to the hub and not the rotor, the rotor can move around a little bit.

As for the siezed wheel, take the lugnuts off, leave one loosely on and kick tire/wheel. But the trick I learned was to lean with your back against the car- and kick backwards. Seems to give more force and pop them off better. MIght help to spray some WD-40 down between the hub and wheel.

Don't hurt your feet, use heavy boots. I had luck with a board and a BFH, using the board on one side of the wheel then the other then back. Didn't seem like it was moving at first but a couple hundrednN(dozen) hits later it was working its way loose. Forearms felt like Popeye! Lightly put anti-seize (not grease!) on the center bore of the hub - that's where it usually gets hung up. Son't use grease or even a lot of anti-seize as you do NOT want water carrying that slippery stuff creepy-like onto your braking surface!

I wouldn't kick a car, even if it were on jackstands, from underneath unless I also had a secondary support. Too easy to get a harmonic going and still knock the darned thing over. People die that way.

Another option is to, yes, HIRE IT DONE. Changing tires at a tire shop or gas station is CHEAP, they have the tools, and if they damage your wheel you get a new one. Go to a shop you trust (those of us who also love and drive OLD cars for kicks always know a decent mechanic... other than ourselves!)

Thanks guys. I got a deadblow hammer and beat the crap out of them. Put some anti-seize on the hubs and all is good.

On a side note, it's good to be back on summer rubber!:D
