View Full Version : Ebay OBX 4-1 headers $169.99

I found these headers on ebay. It's a 4-1 design, but has primaries about as short as the one from wagner. Obviously has a very short collector, and would eliminate the first catalytic convertor.
Any ideas, comments, gripes, or sarcastic remarks appreciated....

It's ebay, so about as trustworthy as anything else on ebay (<100%).

Yeah, that's the one with the picture for the miata (see how it's for a rear drive setup?). That's a 4-2-1 design though.
I don't know what kind of header I want to go with. I'll probably end up going 4-2-1 because I'll never increase the rev limits of the engine. I think the head would need to be ported to gain a whole lot of power beyond 5500 RPM.

Check what material is the header made of. It might be mild chrome steel for that price. If you want a resonable header then this is the way to go.

SS 304 is what's advertised. I don't know if that would be better or mild steel with a ceramic coating. Anyone else have an opinion?
iluvmacs - it depends on what you're after. Mild steel with ceramic coating will offer better thermal protection. Most of the times when the ceramic coating is put on by the manufacturer of the header, it does not have as good coverage as sending it off to Jet-Hot or HPC. 304 will outlast the mild steel coated headers. I'd get 304 and then send it off to get coated.

I think this is because the price of stainless has since gone up.

no, I don't think so.
I think few members have emailed them asked about price and they thought ppl have more interest on items, they just fucking increased the price.

Should be here tomorrow. I'll most likely install it over the weekend. Toyed with getting a Matte Black Jet Hot coating but the cost was the same as the header. $165. Jet-Hot is local for me so I don't have to worry about shipping cost. I'll then be going over to Apex Motorsports to have a MIL eliminator installed.
I'll take pics and give you my opinion on this.

question... how loud is it? I really want to get a header, but I'm afraid of the implications. I have a injen and a mazdaspeed axel-back right now. I'm happy w/my sound. If I add the header, I would be fine with some more sound... I just don't want people to hear me coming down the block... so HOW LOUD IS IT?

I'm also running a catback exhaust and injen intake and the sound level is not much different. The header has a cool buzz or hiss to it.
Don't have a digital caerma right now. So no pic's...

ITS LOUD.... i have injen cai, ractive headers, catback no resonator, and you can hear me 1km away LOL
the ractive headers and obx headers should sound the same

What type of gains do you see from headers?

Ok. I have one person telling me it's fine, and another person telling me it's exactly what I don't want. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the sound. I just don't wanna be heard down the block... aaaahhhhhhh this is why I haven't got it yet! If anyone has a sound clip saved somewhere on their comp.... I would REALLY appreciate it! Thought I'd take a chance...

Dude this is gonna be loud just because the 1st cat doesn't muffle the sound anymore. You will be heard from not just down the block, you'll be heard before you even get to that block.

that's weird... i have a 4-2-1 obx header, custom 2" midpipe with stock cat and a racing beat catback exhaust. i'm not any louder than i was before. i have a slight raspy sound to my car now, but it is by no means any louder than it was before. going on the freeway, i can still hear my intake over my exhaust.

I took off my secondary cat and the primary resonator. I have a bit louder sound but I love it. Plus with the working dual it sounds great. What would you guys recomend for a header? The sound is no option just want to upgrade on performance.

Hey don't worry, there is a new muffler coming out which at low rpms it gives off a regular sound but when you want performance it opens up the baffle and lets out more pressure. Saw it in the Super Street or Sport Compact this month or next, depends on how you get the magazine. This muffler was for people that didn't want to be heard at normal driving, also street legal. Gives the same performance. This may help out your Header Problem thats if you want to replace your axle back for it.

yes... it's all in the muffler. with a good muffler, your header won't make a difference at all. with a canister type exhaust, or with the mazdaspeed exhaust made for the p5, it'll be tons louder. with something like the racing beat exhaust for the p5, it didn't get noticeably louder, although it has become a tiny bit more raspy. definitely not audible from down the block unless i'm really gunning it past 5K.

It is the APEXi Muffler, I just looked it up. What tonkabui said is true, shouldn't matter what header you put, all the sound comes from the muffler, and some from the intake. I want to get a header but still wondering what to get cuz I am pondering between a Super Charger or a Turbo. Don't know yet. Which header is good. Let me know.
