one thing i HATE about the msp is that it has no maplight uptop for the driver and passenger... Just the crazy main domelight. Now the mirror that mazda sells for 240$ this has maplights correct? or cant we just cut out a template from teh mazda3 and snatch it up for the MSP..
other thing i was is a clock! lol car has no clock...

their are maplghts on the msp. they are in the front of the dome light. (power button for each)
if you read the instruction manual for the kenwood headunit, you will find directions on how to display time on the HU; i can't remember what page it is on.

lol no man, right above the rearveiw mirror i would want a light.. you cant drive down the road and turn on the center light, all you will see is LIGHT! those are killer...
and its kind of cheezy that the car doesnt come with an oem dashclock.. most cars do

Mostly all cars come with oem clocks unless the car is cheap.. bmw, audi and vw all have clocks on the dials.. the wrx and lancer even have clocks....radio clocks are jsut cheezy i think..but again thats me, and you are you

The overhead reading lights do not glare, they work fine. They are not the main-dome light, but secondary lights next to it. [edit] Normal Protege's have the clock in the head unit. Ours do as well, but you have to turn it on. [edit]

The aftermarket mirror ($240-290 +$18-200 installed) comes with auto-dimming, outside temp. and compass). And I find the stock map lights quite functional.

[edit] The dimming/compass mirror does have additional map lights. It's the same mirror I had in my 1999 Miata, I honestly found those lights to be less useful, they had a more narrow coverage. The MSP lights, though in an awkward position, actually provide a more useful light for reading something while driving.
Anyway the mirror you are asking about is only $194 at mazdastuff.com (http://www.mazdastuff.com/product.cfm?ProductID=1320)
It can't be that hard to install... dealer mechanics do it!

Lets re arrange this into a thread more useful....Has anyone installed a MP3/P5 visor on a MSP to give us those map lights instead, because I myself find it a little inconvenient to bend your arm back just to turn on a maplight.
Anyone install an aftermarket clock? If so where?
