Anyone know of any sites where I can get some aftermarket GPS navi systems? I'm looking for one thats better quality than what comes with the 3, and something for a lower price than what it is when u buy the package for the 3. I am looking to get a 3 because of the navi, but the high price really makes me think "why pay all of that money for a economy car?" So can anyone help me find a good aftermarket navi system?

no but i would like to know also where you can get that. I was actually thinking of installing a lcd screen but cant find the room. I wish the stock mazda 3 had the dam glove compartment thing like without the navigation so u can hook up ur own system there.

any quailty audio store will have units from several manufacturers that do navigation. and buy quality i'm meaning an actual audio store not best buy or c.c. although they may even sell some units.

A quick Google seach for "DVD Car Navigation" will give you quite a list of options, but before you discount the Mazda unit at $1,750 USD, here are a few prices I found:

Pioneer NAV-SYS900DVD $1,994-$2,600 (6 1/2" screen)
Kenwood KNA-3100 $1,500 plus you have to buy a screen, gps, plus other options. I saw a complete system from Europe for 3,880 euro's (over $4,000 USD) I have not seen a good installed system for less than $2,000 at any local shop. Another word of warning. My dealer has been trying for a week now to find me a 2004 3 hatchback in the surrounding 5 states and is having very little luck. I was only able to find 7 car's on dealer's inventory using the Mazdausa web site and my dealer say's all these have "Deal's Pending" so won't let them go to another dealer.

Yea, I have a Garmin IQ3600 with the car kit, but like you said, has to set somewhere. Got it for 499.00 on E-bay, but you need to add some huge memory to the little PDA to load some map's. I have a 512 SD and the 5 surronding state's, plus a few more is about 230+ Meg worth of storage, but the detail is great with ton's of POI's...still a very small screen and not very bright in the sunlight.

Do a search for Mazda 3 hatchbacks on cars.com for the New York City area... when you get to the "get a quote" section, select Bronx Mazda... I just got my Mazda 3s 4-door there and they had a titanium grey hatchback and a blue hatchback in their inventory...
